I was always stuck on taking finance as my majors and enter the luminous world of Investment Banking. Finance for me was limited to it. 2 months into the B-school and the Placement committee was all guns out about Summer Internship preparations. I could see everyone around me going crazy and doing all kinds of extra courses, following the herd. I chose to take some youtube sessions instead , because it was all the same. The first company that came to our college for a financial role was DELL. I had always heard about its amazing work culture, which made me curious to check its JD (despite of it not being from financial sector). The role was in alignment with corporate finance, so I applied.
The next hour I could see was ET, The Hindu, TOI and what not, lying all around my table. The search history no longer said Instagram or snapchat, it was Bloomberg and Mint, and that sums up my preparation for the interview. Being a graduate fresher my accounting skills were all brushed up. All it took me was a confident attitude and updated knowledge. The next thing was the selection which just elated me to cloud 9, it was my first MNC job.
7-8 months passed by and then I was working in Dell. It took me daily travel of 3 hours to and forth which was the most tiring part given the Bangalore traffic. But work culture at Dell made everything easy. I was assigned a buddy and a mentor who were my constant supports. 1 month into work, I had my mid review which was my first corporate presentation and the response to it was again so overwhelming. It taught me professionalism in its vast sense. The get togethers with the team helped me break the ice with the seniors and build my network.
