Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life
When the British questioned our Independence, Gandhi called out for Swadeshi Movement. This call for country’s self-dependence was strengthened by the Birla group. Following the steps of their forefathers, Aditya Birla Group not only took India to self-dependence but also made it a manufacturing and technology hub of the world. The group is now synonymous to celestial status as in India we benchmark the stature by saying, “Tu koi Birla hai kya?”
The Aditya Birla Group is so big that one cannot comprehend. I start my day on the internet provided by the group’s network Vodafone Idea ltd., the largest in India. There on, from going to my class to returning back my hostel, whatever I use is provided or contributed by the group. From the dashing clothes I wear to my daily use appliances, the road on which I travel to the building in which I live, the electricity distribution safety to road safety, all have a part of Aditya Birla Group in it. It is almost impossible to live if the products of the group vanishes from the world. The group is working for the coming generation like recycling its non-metals. The group has made our lives better by its innovative products and CSR activities.
Aditya Birla Group is true to its tagline, “Taking India to the world.” The group is our very own MNC which has its presence on all the continents. I am grateful to Aditya Birla Group which has contributed the most in building India. Any association with ABG is a matter of pride for the countrymen.
How I overcame challenges to achieve my ambition
When I was a kid, parents expected me to be an engineer. I was not sure I wanted to do but I was sure what I wanted to do if I am in an engineering college. I was ambitious to build a formula racing car. During those days I saw a college team went to Europe with their car and won accolades. That thing fascinated me. Fast forward, I joined BIT Sindri in Production Engineering department. There I came to know there was SAE India Students’ chapter which was doing great in the All-Terrain Vehicle segment and the team is now exploring into the formula racing segment. That’s it, I got my direction in my engineering life. When I joined, the team was in its initiation and I was a junior understudy, I did the menial jobs and learnt the way-hows of this world as it was beyond my wildest thoughts I to make a car from the scratch! The team went and couldn’t clear the technical. Next year, I was on the team working under amazing brains. I got to lay my hands on tools and started working. I slogged day in day out for our goal, to run our car on the tracks of Buddha International Circuit, the circuit where the champions of the automobile sector and racers show their quality.
As we see, every story has a villain. Ours was the funds and support. The college financial aid was not great due to our past performance and the local industries did not want to sponsor us as having an IIT in the vicinity does not help in small towns. The cash crunch team was sure that we will this car of ours on the tracks of Buddha International Circuit. We did things the Indian way by the ways of jugaad. We used scrap and old project's parts to build a car. The time came and we were still struggling with the finishing and minimal testing. We had faith and a team working round the clock and the project reached its destination.
The time of our visit to Buddha International Circuit is still vivid. The magnificent stadium and the track intimidated the team and we took our car admiring the beauty of our car. We later realized it was the ugliest but only we know how pretty she was. Facing the technical scrutiny, we struggled and was the last team to qualify for the finals. Yes! Our car would be on the BIC track, we will be in the pit where the champions work.
The ugliest and cheapest team from Jharkhand defied all odds and took its team to the final race where the car ran and completed the laps. We were declared 19th all over amongst 150 odd teams but the ranking did not matter as we did a great job and though it was ugly, people could see our efforts. The end was a proud moment, a Rajya Sabha TV journalist came to us and said, “Your car shows the effort of the students, the pure work and this is how the event should be, not polished expensive inputs, rather a quality work.” Courtesy of his admiration, we got good coverage on their live show on TV on the event.
Next year, the same plans and a motivated team got to work. I was living my dream and it got better as I was the main driver along with the team captain of my racing team. We improved but failed the last test and dejected we left. I could have driven the car on the International Track but it turned out to be heartbreak but I realized my dream. The team is again there and the ultimate ambition is still alive which is to see my team go for the International Events with the car. I hope the ambition which I have is shared by my successors and I will see my darling team competing with the world’s top college teams.
