Believe it or not, an internship is not only about learning how to document meetings or attending meetings. It is much more than that. Internships are incredibly valuable for networking, gaining experience and ultimately helping to get your dream job in your chosen sector. Getting an on-ground experience is a vital component for your MBA degree. From working with global companies to start-ups, it helps you to grow as a professional and understand market view for products.

My internship was in the technical industry in a company named HUSH. The experience to intern at a start-up was amazing. A start-up work culture is entirely different than that of a well- established company.

TELL ME, AND I WILL FORGET.
SHOW ME, AND I MAY REMEMBER.
INVOLVE ME, AND I WILL UNDERSTAND

This is exactly what my colleagues and mentor would believe. They allowed us to understand different job roles and their functioning. My internship job was primarily about Product Management, but we also got a chance to understand the science behind content and understanding the users for the app. My internship as a Product Manager has given me broad exposure in analysing the effectiveness of the activities on the app. I also assisted with drafting the ideas that help in the growth and engagement on the app. As a Product Manager intern I worked primarily on jobs and company product. This is so that they collaborate with us in enlisting their jobs and creating their own community where employees can share their views on several topics.

As I was more inclined towards pursuing analytics as my career, I also learnt to use tools like Jira and Mixpanel which are used to manage a team and to perform a user behavioural analysis respectively. This eventually would help into drafting an effective PR strategy for the firm. For anyone who would want to learn and understand the working of a firm, I would recommend them to do his internship in a start-up, as it allows to learn and being a smaller team it lets you interact with each employee of the company. My colleagues at the workplace not only did help me understand the work but also did help me understanding what a market perspective is over several matters.

Having given interviews for my internship, it is very important for you to get your basics right. For a technical or a non-technical interview, your base about the subject needs to be strong as it helps the interviewers to judge you for your knowledge. “Be confidant, Be honest”, this is extremely essential for you to appear in an interview. It is absolutely fine if you don’t have knowledge regarding any particular subject. But trying answer about the subject will only land you into trouble. Accept the fact that you don’t know and also be confidant about things that you know. Be well prepared, well-groomed for the interview as it is rightly said that ‘First impression is the last impression’.

Lastly, my company mentor helped me a lot into explaining my job role as well as helping me whenever I got stuck. He would always be there to listen to us interns and help us solve our problems. Also, he would allow us to learn much more than our job role. It was indeed a learning experience for me to intern at Hush.
