After having joined MBA I realised that there was so much of the real world to know and explore. Being an engineering graduate did give me the technical view point but MBA gave me perspective which I prize the most. The moment you start your MBA journey your hunt to success starts and the first milestone being the summer internship. I was lucky enough to get placed on day 0 in FinTech company OdessaInc. I had heard a lot about this company from seniors and definitely wanted to get through. My preparation included a lot of studying about their product called LeaseWave and anything and everything I could know about the emerging leasing industry I went through it.
My knight in the shining armour were my seniors and specially the ones who had already interned with that company. I remember how I used to bug them day in and day out before this company came to our campus. One good habit that MBA got me in was the habit of reading newspapers daily. This helped me a lot in clearing the group discussion round. After clearing all the rounds and before the final round which was on the very next day, I don't remember if at all I slept. Not just the preparation but anxiety also kept me awake. After all it was the first company on-campus and who wouldn't want to get placed on the very first day. It was a stress interview I must admit but I loved the questions that were thrown at me. They judged me on my technical knowledge of finance, little bit on technology and a lot on my endurance for stress. Results were declared and I was selected.I had to join this company in April.
April arrived and I was all thrilled and excited to begin my corporate life. People said corporate world was difficult and cruel but I don't know if I was just lucky or all that I had been hearing was false, because my corporate life was smoother than I could have imagined and all thanks goes to my Mentor Ms.Kritika Banerjee.I couldn't have gotten a better mentor and I can vouch for it. She was there for me whenever I was in doubt. After my project allocation she used to hold weekly two meetings just to check the updates on the project.Whenever I made a mistake she made me understand things rather than scolding me. She also organised team lunch and outings to make me feel comfortable with the team. Very particular about deadlines and work she made sure that I inculcate the culture of Odessa well. Other than the help that I received from my mentor I also did a lot of self reading from their confluence page where they kept all the documents which we could refer to in case of doubts and queries.
The best thing for me at Odessa has to be it's supremely amazing work culture.I just loved the way people work there and make other people work.No strict rules no unnecessary drama and a flat structure where even the COO of company comes and interact with the employees. There were many things that I learned in these two months of my internship but keeping the technicals aside what I learned or rather discovered was the fact that you can LOVE your work too.
Cheers to Odessa!
