A masters in business administration was always something on my list. When I joined NMIMS university at Bangalore, there were a set of expectations on what my takeaways would be and how I wish to take forward my career from here. With prominent work experience at Accenture before joining this institute, my expectations in terms of my learnings were clear. Though I had chosen a completely new career path coming into an MBA, I was determined to make a prosperous career out of it.
Though the decision of taking up Human resource as my majors was made, it still required a good summer internship training to develop the necessary understanding of this field of work. When the summer internship process started, I was determined to make the best of opportunities available. I brushed through the concepts of Organisational Behavior and Human Resource Management courses done in the first two trimesters before my summer internship process.
The day of the interview arrived. I was anxious and nervous but had a strong belief in my learnings. After two rounds of personal interview, I finally made through the process. I was offered an HR generalist Intern role at IndianMoney, a fintech company based out of Bangalore. The decade-old organization would be a perfect opportunity for me to learn things from scratch and develop my core skills. The 8 weeks of summer internship was definitely going to a great learning curve going forward.
The day I joined IndianMoney, I was assigned to the role of understanding the operations of IndianMoney and come up with the gap analysis. The two approaches I followed for the same were through observations and one to one discussions. These would then be shared with my reporting manager, who would decide on the needs to fill these gaps. I was also assigned to create Job descriptions for existing and new roles in the organization by interacting and collecting information from relevant stakeholders.
Apart from this, I was also involved in recruitment and selection related initiatives, ranging from preparing employee testimonials for recruitment flyers, feedback forms for the onboarding process and so on. I got to be also involved in developing an employee engagement calendar for the next year. My other tasks at the organization involved policy documentation for the employees, creating mock tests for the NISM certification level 1 course and preparing a manual for the partner success team. This helped me get an overall picture of the HR department and its day to day operations. I was also engaged in creative work which involved designing posters and mailer content for implementation of suggestion box at the organization.
Overall, my experience at IndianMoney was something that will help me progress further into my specialization courses in the second year. This experience will put me in a good tread for final placements also.
A special mention to my mentor at IndianMoney, who guided me throughout my internship journey and by assigning me tasks across various verticals helped me in overcoming my worries of venturing into a completely new line of work.
