When I think of Indian Conglomerates, the first name that comes to mind is the Aditya Birla Group. This is unsurprising as I have a connection with the Birla group as BITS Pilani is my alma mater. ABG has expanded its presence to a total of 34 countries and now employs 1, 20,000 employees across 42 nationalities.
A $44.3 billion corporation, with its presence across 14 sectors and with 55+ brands, ABG leaves an indelible mark on each and every citizen of this country in one way or another and I am no exception to this. Whether it is building the nation with Ultratech cement or connecting people all over the world with Vodafone-Idea or clothing humankind with a diverse portfolio, catering to all the unique needs of a diverse population with its wide range of offerings under Aditya Birla Fashion Retail (ABFRL), ABG group’s presence has been ubiquitous.
Personally, the brand that has left the biggest impact on me is Peter England. The brand truly offers apparel that caters to every fashion occasion of a young professional’s life, be it formal or casual. When it comes to apparel, I do not have to deliberate about which brand to go for as Peter England has always left me satisfied, happy and made me feel confident.
Gaining admission into the prestigious institute of BITS Pilani was a remarkable achievement in my life. All my friends and well-wishers were full of appreciation for me. It was after all the culmination of two long years of grueling studies without any distractions whatsoever and battling a viral fever that threatened to derail my dream of pursuing my education at one of India’s most premier institutions.
Going off to such a far off place and learning to live all on my own was a completely new experience. I had to battle the extreme temperatures of Pilani, ranging from -2 degrees in winter to 50 degrees in peak summer. Learning to manage physically, emotionally and socially was a huge achievement, leaving alone tackling the tough syllabi and the competition. Mingling with students from all over the country has taught me many things. I was part of the BITS Pilani Carrom team and later went on to be the Captain of the team. I joined the National Service Scheme as well and was part of the Health and Public Awareness team, organizing events such as the Blood Donation Camp taught me leadership skills. Creating awareness, teaching in nearby villages showed me the harsh realities of life and I have always strived to do my bit for the society ever since. These four years at the campus were all in all a wonderful learning experience for a small town lad like me.
All in all, I am extremely indebted to this company that has been a very major part of my life, both on a personal and professional front. I would like to take this opportunity to show my gratitude to the Aditya Birla Group. Many thanks, ABG!!!
