#MyRiseStory

It was 17th September,2018- an apparently hot Friday noon in Chennai– after having lunch at my office and sipping on my hot coffee at my desk – I got a call from my mom. Usually my mom used to call me everyday at that time- I didn’t sense anything odd. Just as I was about to pick it up- meeting notification popped up on my mail inbox and It being an important weekly call with my Onshore lead – I prioritized attending the meeting and sent a WhatsApp text to my mom before keeping my phone in silent mode. The meeting went on for an hour and afterwards when I checked my phone – it had 10 missed calls from her. My heart skipped a bit. I immediately tried reaching out to her but it kept on going unanswered. I tried calling my dad, tried calling on landline but all my efforts went in vain. Suddenly in the midst of all this, my cousin sister called me. I was not in the mood to listen to her relationship issues at that time but still I picked up her call. Thank God I picked up! She informed me that my dad was hospitalized this morning on account of severe low sodium imbalance and kidney related issues. I understood why mom had called me so many times and I failed to pick it up. I looked down upon myself but before spending any more time I directly went to the airport, bought air tickets and after three hours I was at Kolkata.

The next two months I stayed at Kolkata. From staying nights at hospital to taking my dad for several report examinations, doctor visits and motivating him all through – this was one of the testing times in my life. Apart from being there for my parents, I continued my official responsibilities with full vigor – from planning to execution to conducting meetings – I tried to stay on the top of the things ahead. Along with all this – every night I made it a point to give my best effort for CAT preparation.

I went back to Chennai and started going to my office. Finally, on January 2019, CAT results came out and I scored a pretty decent 96.74 percentile which landed me at IMT Ghaziabad.  My mom was ecstatic when she heard about this on phone and I could sense her happiness from her voice.

The one person who deserves a special mention in all of this – who held my back when I wanted to give up, who prepared for me all the early morning meals, who made all the effort to bring a smile on my face and most importantly who believed in me is my mom.

So, this was #MyRiseStory which exposed me to varied circumstances, taught me how to keep going even if results aren’t visible at that moment and ultimately all these experiences make you STRONG and serve as a guiding reference in way forward.
