Never give up- TAPMI

I was born in Mumbai, in an upper middle class family. My grandfather had founded a travel agency after coming to Mumbai and undergoing a lot of hardships. The business was later taken up by my father and uncle after grandpa retired. To put it short, my family is made up of educated bunch of individuals.

My childhood was just perfect, a loving family, quality education, amazing friends, extra-curriculars etc. I had no reason to complain about anything there. As I grew up, my parents never objected to any of my choices or decisions, with respect to my career, choice of friends or any of that sort. I had the freedom to roam around the city, go for trips, explore places.

I completed Engineering and started working for an IT firm, I was 22 then. After around six months of working, my parents started showing me prospects for marriage. This is when I told them that I wanted to pursue an MBA, my parents were a little apprehensive at that stage, I thought it was because MBA was a costly affair. The concern though similar wasn’t limited to my parents, they were sure that my extended family wouldn’t agree for this as we were financially joint and they persuaded me that I get married and later go for a post graduation. I wasn’t sure if I got into the bond of marriage, I would ever be able to go for a post graduation, since my own family here wasn’t standing up by my side let alone encourage me pursue it.

It was a very tough time, where I thought I would never be able to make it through that phase. After days of convincing and retaliation my parents realized how badly I wanted to go for an MBA. They decided to sell a part of their property to let me pursue my goal. It is very necessary that we stand strong and firm on our decision in tough times and be determined to achieve them, some or the other way does appear.
