Finding courage at the moment of hopelessness can save the ship from sinking. It is determiner of success or failure. Though it is easy to run away from challenges or wait for others to resolve it, I firmly believe in facing challenges head on.
I worked on an extensive audit of internal controls of a listed company during my internship. The audit was conducted at multiple locations across India. However, due to frequent turnover of the team members, contractual challenges, re-work, unclear objectives and challenging deadlines, the progress was stagnant and it subdued the team’s spirit. I accepted the responsibility to complete the assignment within the deadline and prepared a structured plan. Major challenges were to train and co-ordinate with the new team members, persuade the client and their employees for an audit re-visit and time constraints. Sorting the team according to their skills, expertise and availability for various locations was the first step. It was followed by creation of a standard set of procedures and requirements, providing work templates and training. I coordinated with the client and planned the visits giving sufficient time for training, on-field work and review. I scheduled interim reviews and guidance over mails while assigning follow up, tracking work progress, report assimilation and consolidation to an individual. The team successfully completed the assignment within the deadline.
I learned that planning and setting objectives are vital for completion of any task. Teamwork helped us to accomplish the goals faster and in efficient manner and leadership meant sharing the responsibilities and the mission. I did not lose belief in myself and my team and hence we together overcame the challenge.
