After, completing my school education from an agricultural city and moving to an industrial city for an undergraduate degree in engineering was a novel experience. However, moving from there to a metro and entering the corporate life was a challenge.
I was of the belief that having to live in a single room as a paying guest alone in a metro when I hail from an agricultural background would be the biggest challenge. I was wrong. It was a challenge to commute more than 10 km from my place of stay to the office. It was a challenge to arrange for food and adjusting to live as a single occupant in an alien place. However, adjusting to the corporate life from the education stage of my life was the biggest challenge.
Working in an IT company in a support project in shifts took some getting used to (physically). Adjusting from the electronics and communications background to the IT work space meant that I had to do a lot of catching up to do (mentally). The people in the team all had prior work experience and I was one of the freshers.
Working overtime to understand the working of the client systems and going through tons of documents from the knowledge base was how I was able to catch up to my colleagues on the understanding of the systems. After a period of three months, came Christmas. The peak sales season for the client. Not having much of a private life as I was living alone, I was able to cope up with the pressure and catch up and surpass my colleagues on the understanding of the systems. Dedication, focus and hard work helped me in overcoming the challenges.
