Persistence, Patience, and Timing -IIM RANCHI

I am going to share with you how these three cornerstones have defined what Aditya Birla Group stands for and following a similar pattern, explain how my life is also time, by the same.

Persistence attribute can be seen in Aditya Birla Group in how it has created and maintained a brand like UltraTech Cement;  it has stood the test of time, proved time and again why it is at a place where it is, transforming into a leading cement producer on global standards. Let’s not forget it is one of the few brands the bleeds character and stature as soon as you mention their name. UltraTech Cement has been one of the products that has resonated with me since childhood. Hearing the lines "Bhaiya Ultratech cement he Lagana" is something I remember clearly, today the brands keeps on performing on its deliverables only getting better.

The recent Vodafone Idea merger has made me realize what patience is, understanding the need of all the stakeholders and adopting changes never thought about before is what this merger proved to be. The timing attribute was displayed when Aditya Birla Group launched ABOF, with its large network, planning, and execution; it was a very methodical plan launched at a perfect time understanding the market conditions. It adapted to the changing conditions; I am sure will come back stronger.

How I overcame challenges to achieve my ambitions in life:

Just like many others in our batch persistence in my life was defined by my CAT journey, coming from a hospitality background the whole journey was an uphill task, many a time the result seemed too farfetched . Still I believed and fought through always reflecting on what my father repeated, “Set ambitious goals, along the journey, you will discover things about yourself you never knew.” Coming from a customer service background, this is an innate skill you develop sooner or later. 

Patience in my life can be associated with the time I spent before joining IIM Ranchi. It was not all about the acceptances and rejections I went through, it was also about the time I spent on self-reflecting, traveling, and understanding what I bring to the table that no one else does. These are the things that help you create your identity. Sometimes just patiently working on the task at hand, not thinking about what comes next is the next one can to. Studying and working sometimes proved to be very difficult, but it was a challenge I had to overcome.

Timing, for some people this aspect can turn out to just luck, being at the right place at the right time. But I cannot say the same. I believe this is a very important skill to harness and is going to be one of the key learning in my MBA journey. With a host of extracurricular activities buzzing around the campus, to judicially decide where you would spend your 24 hrs is crucial to gain the most out of the experience.

In today's Dynamic environment, there are very companies have managed to achieve what ABG has; they are a testament to learning and a dream company to work for many individuals like myself.
