On the 15th August 2018, God’s Own Country faced a calamity like none other. The floods that tore apart the land in Kerala was also what brought the people together at this time of crisis. The damages caused by the floods was unfathomable. Buildings, roads, bridges, dams, etc were shattered by wrath of Mother Nature. The rescue and rehabilitation of Kerala primarily dependent on Connectivity. Connectivity by roads and connectivity through communication.
The disaster found about 10,000kms of road washed away and damages to about 1 lakh houses, the restoration of all these infrastructures, could not have been possible without massive quantities of cement. Aiding the society to come out of the set-back it faced, UltraTech Cement which is now synonymous to cement itself, touched the lives of many by helping in the reconstruction of sustainable homes for the residents and quick maintenance and repair of the roads and other infrastructure. This recovery was not just efficient and quick it also showed the commitment of an entire country towards the upliftment of one among them. Thus, one of the pioneer products of ABG that helped rebuild the state back to its former glory was the UltraTech Cement.
Another major contribution during this time by ABG was in the telecommunication industry. Idea Cellular which is one of the most widely used network in the state with over 12 million customers. After having almost all means of communication jammed in the state for days and people marooned, they were able to connect with their family thanks to the generous offers provided by Idea Cellular that allowed free talk time and data. Thus, bringing people closer and allowing them to convey their location and status to the rescue operators and their worried family. The entirety of the contributions by ABG during the hardships faced in Kerala cannot be quantified. These are merely two examples. The role that this brand and their products served can be described as the building blocks that created a new beginning for the state.
The contributions of ABG in almost every industry gives a clear picture of their intention to see their country develop and grow just like themselves. The educational institutions are nothing short of the best in the country. Even as a child I have been fascinated by the Sarala Birla Academy, Bangalore and its castle-like architecture which makes it look straight out of fairy-tale. Aditya Birla group has been a part of my lifestyle, be it the monthly trips to the “More” supermarket or even purchasing clothes from their retail stores. The impact they have on the lives of every Indian is boundless.
