To quote Aditya Vikram Birla himself, “The most important lesson in management is that major investments should be made in the selection, training and building up of people”.
What stands out to me the most about Aditya Birla Group is how people-centric the company is. I too believe that for our society to develop, it is most important to invest in the education and wellbeing of the people. Especially the sector of our society that may not be born with the privilege of accessing even the most basic rights of education and healthcare.
My passion to see our society develop to its fullest potential, led me towards the Teach for India fellowship. I worked in a low-income government school in North Chennai for 2 years as a full-time teacher with a mission to understand the causes for education inequity in India and to provide an excellent education to 123 of my adorable 11-year olds for 2 years. Today, I am a proud alumnus of the movement with the intent to continue working to develop our society especially through the channel of education.
The reason ABG is big in my life is because I believe we are a part of a similar movement. ABG works in around 5000 villages, reaches out to 7.5 million people, operates in around 56 schools for around 46,500 school children and gives skills training for about 95,000 people. The Aditya Birla Education Trust has always striven to nurture young minds. The Aditya Birla Integrated school was one of the first and best schools that catered to children with special needs and more recently, the Aditya Birla Education Academy was founded to provide a platform to educators who aim to improve their own skills, thus providing the education sector with more empowered and qualified teachers.
In addition, ABG has taken up numerous projects in the rural sector like KHEL, Gyanarjan, Mid-day meal schemes in Odisha to empower the rural sector to further develop. ABG also provides merit scholarships to around 32,000 children from the interiors. The drive with which ABG operates to empower the marginalised sectors of our country is inspiring. There are senior managers from ABG who have pursued the TFI fellowship as well. This just goes to show the commitment ABG has to the movement towards education equity in our country.
I believe that what affects a section of our society, must affect us too. And the only way to go up is when we lift each other up and rise together. The way ABG does it.
