A B-school always makes it name in the top bracket if it has stellar placements, strong alumni connect and a wide array of highly qualified professors and diversified students. In today’s scenario, isolated expertise in functional areas of finance, systems, marketing or operations is giving way to a composite and unified approach to managing business processes. Effective decision-making requires an integrated understanding of all business functions. At the Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay this guiding philosophy is firmly rooted. Methodologies of business management are being shorn off the traditional practices and new holistic approaches are being developed.
The IIT Bombay ecosystem has a resounding effect on exploring the different activities and ventures available in this campus. This institution has 10000 students from different fields and interaction with them on major occasions broadens our scope of thinking and our way of exploration. From leadership summits to lecture series, from amazing faculty to a top-notch peer group, SJMSOM provides one with a plethora of facilities. With the culture at IIT Bombay, SJMSOM not only nurtures MBAs, but aims at inspiring the renaissance leader in everyone. With an awe-inspiring student to faculty ratio of about 10:1, one can imagine the level of interaction and mentoring every student is entitled to. With more than 100 industry stalwarts coming and sharing their wide array of knowledge and experiences, every budding manager gets an opportunity to be updated with latest happenings in the business world. It is also a haven for aspiring entrepreneurs who get a chance to use a platform this big and realize their dream of making it big.
SJMSOM doesn’t teach us to become managers. We are taught to be leaders in our way and then we have the flexibility to venture on our own paths and take our careers forward. Also, being part of IIT system helps us to connect with the different start-ups through SINE and Entrepreneurship Cell which is unique to our b school. There are a host of sessions like yoga, meditation and other activities conducted which help us to take care of our health despite a tight and compact schedule.
Lastly when you are in an IIT, technology is bound to inspire your lives. Thousands of events also inspire us to take part in them and nurture it because in today’s world of digitalization, nothing is possible without technology. I think this is the most important parameter which separates our b school from all other b schools. We have this advantage of connecting with all the engineering departments and work closely with them on numerous occasions thus increasing out portfolio of knowledge and setting ourselves apart from the other students in other colleges.
Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?
I would like to work for Aditya Birla Science And Technology Company Private Limited. Being a computer science engineer, I can nurture my skills and a fair bit of work experience of around 34 months by joining this company. Any company however small or big, R&D is always the major backbone behind its existence and I think if I get the chance to work for this company, it will give me a huge impetus to explore how Aditya Birla is using its research way to stay right at the top bracket of all reputed companies and how it is evolving with technology over time. This opportunity will also help me to increase my knowledge and find out the nitty gritties behind how technology is used here and in what fields. At the end of the day, even when you do an MBA and become a manager, technology is something which can only add to your experience and help you in the long run and I believe this would be the perfect place to learn and grow with the organization and also find ways of how I can contribute for the same.
