If you have ever been to Gurugram and crossed the famous NH8, then you must have noticed the swankiest building, which looks no less than a luxurious five-star hotel. This blue and red building is the head office of the leading telecommunication company of India, Airtel and where I got an opportunity to spend my summer of 2019.
As I have lived in Gurugram for few years and was always captivated by this building, I will start my experience with some show off about the office because they say "if you have it, flaunt it!". As I have already said above, the office is no less than a luxurious place. The moment you step in you realize that it is another world. Whether the employee friendly workplace or the cute quirky breakout areas, the delicious lunch buffet or the Costa Coffee and to not forget the lush green café or the daily need store, the office has something to offer from every corner.
Coming to my internship work experience, I interned with the Financial Planning and Analysis team of the Delhi Circle (the Indian telecom market is divided into 27 circles, Delhi being one of them). The FP&A team of Delhi Circle is a small team with loads of work, as Delhi is one of the biggest telecom circles and I was lucky enough to work with this team. I had a warm welcome by my team on the first day itself, and was assigned a mentor, under whom I worked and learned for two months.
I already had a work experience with a leading telecom vendor in the world, so it became easier for me to understand the day to day working and business processes of Airtel. Though, the work was in the finance domain but my past work experience really added an advantage in understanding the different technicalities of the telecom sector.
My mentor at the organization made me work with the real time projects. She made me work for three major projects in which she was the lead. She always made sure that my two months are not wasted and I should leave the organization with bag full of learning. I will always be grateful to her for making my internship experience a cakewalk. Also, coming back to work after a break was an added motivation for me
The basic understanding of finance which was taught in first year at college and my past work experience made my life easier not only during the internship but also during my interviews. I made sure that I am thorough through the fundamentals which have been taught to us and be crystal clear on all the pointers mentioned on my resume regarding my past experience or the certifications and online courses I had completed.
The summer internship was a very good learning experience for me. Since, I had a technical background (both undergraduate and past work experience), the internship gave me an exposure to working of the business end of an organisation. These two months of being back at the workplace were filled with meeting deadlines, numerous breakouts with co-interns, good food (leading to gaining few kilos ) and most importantly a wonderful learning experience which I will always cherish and be really proud of.
