PART A:

Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my Life?:

Aditya Birla Group is an Indian multinational conglomerate headquartered in Worli, Mumbai, India. It was founded in 1857 and operates in 35 countries with more than 120,000 employees worldwide. It is the third largest India private sector conglomerate only behind the Tata Group and RIL. It is the world’s largest manufacture of carbon black and India’s largest cement company. It is also in the league of Fortune 500 companies. It is clear that Aditya Birla Group has made it big. But not only has it made it big, it has had a big impact on all of our lives.

As I was born and brought up in Mumbai, I was always surrounded by this great brand. The most common would be Freshwrapp, Allen Solly, Peter England, Pantaloons, Forever 21 and VanHeusen. Right from using Freshwrapp aluminum foils during our school days, VanHeusen for our innerwear, Pantaloons for our parties and Peter England for our business formals we use today, Aditya Birla Group is everywhere. Vodafone Idea, previously Idea, is the leading telecom operator in India. Idea has a really strong hold in rural and interior parts of Maharashtra. Ultratech cement is one of the reasons for sound infrastructure in India. We cannot forget the Bandra-Worli sea link in Mumbai which is quite a spectacle.  So it is clear that Aditya Birla Group covers almost all our basic needs in our lives from house, clothing, protecting our food (mobile-telecom provider, which has become a necessity these days).  It also caters to the luxury in our life as mentioned above.

Also, we cannot forget about the CSR activities promoted by the Aditya Birla Group. It reaches out annually to 7.5 million people through the Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development. It also works in 5,000 villages globally. It runs 56 schools which provide quality education to 46,500 children. Its 20 hospitals tend to more than a million villagers. Last but not the least, it also provides mid-day meals to 74,000 children through Akshaya Patra. Now we know that this great group actually affects our lives daily either directly or indirectly and is helping us build a formidable India.

PART B:

The most significant challenged faced so far:

This is the most significant challenge that I have faced professionally. I have done my bachelors in engineering and have a work experience of around 33 months. This incident occurred in my first project at Tata Consultancy Services as a trainee after I had completed my training in a Microsoft tool called Microsoft Dynamics CRM. After quickly grasping the processes of the client in my first project just after I was trained in my technology, I was given the opportunity to work on the client virtual machine. The new requirement changes were to be moved to production and unknowingly I introduced a bug into the system. I being a trainee, my mentor was held to be at fault for not cross-checking. My mentor was to blame for asking me to perform such a critical task at such an early stage in my career of a developer. The issue escalated and blame fell upon the entire team. The first step to resolution was to accept the mistake from our end and find its root cause. There was a minor difference in the way changes were moved to production for a particular entity for this client, as compared to the nominal procedure. After much deliberation, the appropriate changes were implemented and I got a first-hand experience of handling such a delicate situation. The first lesson I learnt was to address the situation at hand and work as a team rather than play the blame game. We need to be honest with the client to build a level of trust and always be professional and practical in the way we work which sometimes might not be the ideal way which we are taught in training.
