There are numerous companies that touch our lives daily. After all, each and every product we use is manufactured by some organization or the other. But there are only a handful of industrial groups and especially no one like the Aditya Birla Group, which is so massive and diversified, that it can be conservatively said that the group has attained omnipresence. A US $44.3 billion conglomerate, the Aditya Birla Group is active in 14 industry sectors and has achieved global and national leadership in several businesses.

If I ruminate, I find Aditya Birla Group impacting me at each and every point of my life, starting from Hindalco’s ‘Freshwrapp’ that has been with me for so many years now since primary school. Credit goes to this product for keeping the tasty food cooked by my mother, tasty, even after hours. Next comes the one stop place for all my fashion cravings, Pantaloons. Pantaloons opened its first outlet in Pacific mall, Dehradun in 2013. I still remember the thrill I felt, visiting the store for the first time. It was rather a new concept in Dehradun back then. It catered to the needs of all. Family shopping was never so easy and fun. Casuals for me, formals for dad, ethnic wear for mom and my sister; Pantaloons had everything.

In last 10 years, India's mutual fund industry has grown 12.5% annually on average, outperforming the growth clocked by the world and developed regions by more than double. Whenever the top companies of this sector are recognized, it is impossible to keep Aditya Birla Capital at bay. Aditya Birla Capital manages aggregate assets worth more than 3000 billion rupees as of December 31, 2018. More than the numbers, Aditya Birla Capital and its subsidiaries have instilled trust in Indian investors who are generally more risk-averse compared to the developed countries. It's because of this trust that when I started earning and wanted to invest in a mutual fund, my father suggested me just one name, Aditya Birla Sun Life. When even in such a volatile market, my portfolio value steadily increases, I realize that it was one of the best investment decisions I have taken up till now.

My house was built in the latter part of the 1970-1980 decade by my grandfather. I am sure that if Ultratech Cement had been established by then, my grandfather would have opted for it, but it was not to be. But a decade ago when my mother had a chance to purchase Ultratech cement’s stocks, she didn’t leave any opportunity to grab them. The result is that the money grew to about 5 times within the decade. And that's the trust in Aditya Birla Group that I am talking about. That's why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life!

The Aditya Birla Group is omnipresent!

“Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after the other”

-Walter Elliot

Perseverance is such a powerful force that no challenge can stand in front of it for long. It’s simply continued hard work. You may not be able to succeed in the first attempt, you may fail in the second attempt as well, but if you are persistent enough, you will continue the hard work until you reach your goal. Perseverance has always been with me and has always helped in overcoming the challenges thrown at me.

The most prominent instance when I was faced by an insurmountable challenge was when I was trying to get my first book published. I was a sophomore back then. Being a first-time writer, no publishing house was interested in giving even the slightest glance at my manuscript. Moreover, mine was a nonfiction book. Nonfiction books are generally written by people who have some specialized knowledge about the subject matter. Who would be even slightly interested in what a twelfth pass amateur had scribbled? I felt disappointed and realized that conventional ways of publishing are not for me. That’s when I started exploring self-publishing options.

Through self-publishing platforms, one can easily publish his or her book, but it involves a hefty upfront payment. I wasn’t willing to invest such a huge chunk of money as I wasn’t sure whether the book would sell at all. But on the other hand, the dream of holding my book in tangible form had grown so vivid in me that it had to be done in some way or the other. That's when I started to look up for startups in the self-publishing business. I found a suitable publisher who was offering to publish at dirt cheap prices but he had no prior experience. The company’s website was on the sixth page of google search; so, you can pretty much understand the publisher's popularity. The publisher was not charging me much money but wasn't providing me with any services either. That meant that all the tasks of a publisher including proofreading, designing, copy editing had to be done by me. It was intimidating at first but I started doing it.

Twelve times the manuscript got rejected. It had become a kind of a cycle. I used to put in all efforts in doing the needful corrections and send the draft to the publisher, only to find a rejection letter in my inbox the very next day. The process repeated again and again. But when you are determined and ready to persevere, nothing can stop you from achieving what you deserve. The thirteenth time, the book was accepted.

Two months later, an elated boy was holding a thin book in his hands, titled ‘Chemistry Around Us’, flipping it over and over again, observing it from every angle, as if it was his greatest possession ever!
