The gates of economy opened by the forces of Globalization and Liberalization have given the Indian consumers the power of choice. In such a diverse and demanding market, trying to create a brand image that appeals to the culture, value, and ethics of the consumers is essential in making yourself stand out. And this is exactly what the story of an enterprise that grew from a cotton trading industry to one of the largest conglomerates in the Indian market tells us. The bamboo shoots are known for its rapid growth. In fact, they are the fastest growing plants in the world. But how do they do it? Is it something that happens overnight or a week or a month. No. For a whole year, the bamboo shoot prepares itself developing a vast network of roots underground preparing itself for what is to come in the coming year. And once it is ready, the bamboo shoots start growing at a rate unprecedented by any other species in the plant kingdom. The same is true and reflects the core philosophy of Aditya Birla Group.

The group has its prowess over a variety of industries from manufacturing to service and products ranging from aluminum to data, touching the lives of every Indian on a daily basis. Giving consumers the power of choice will help them endorse a brand because it helps the consumers believe that they are in charge. To take an example, the wide range of products the group owns in the clothing retails gives the consumer the power of choice but makes sure that the group benefits out of the choice. And when the consumer gets their demands fulfilled, the chances that they return to the brand is very high. This is explained by the phenomenal growth of the company to have a global outreach, having over 120,000 employees in over 42 countries.

The power of choice is what, I believe, defines any person. Life is an unplanned journey. Seldom does anything goes exactly the way you planned. And the choices you make all the differences. The hardships that you go through or the adverse situations that you have to face is not something that is in the power of your choice. But how to see them and tread through the narrow path to the other side is a choice that you can make. When I decided to do an MBA after my graduation, I had a clear plan of how I will be doing it. But usually, we have a macro vision of how things unfold. We never look at the micro details. The path I had to tread had many distractions. It wasn't an easy journey planning for an MBA while you are working full time. The aspiration of having a better opportunity ahead cannot undermine the performance of your current responsibilities. What is important is how you choose to see this situation. The choice to remain happy at any circumstance is a choice that you make and the only time you have to feel down is only when the present you is worse than you a year before. If you have improved, you are making a choice to be happy and that choice is your retaliation for all the hardships that life throws at you. And this is what I can reflect about myself when you are asked about how you managed to overcome the adverse conditions, and came out successful.
