To join a business school was my ambition.
The path to joining a good B-school was filled with hurdles.
Common Admission Test or CAT was the first hurdle followed by essay writing, Group discussion, and personal interview.
CAT was an extremely competitive exam taken by more than 1 lakh aspirants throughout the country.
The preparation required constant practice and hours of study each day to crack it.
I was finding it hard to focus on preparation due to my demanding job. My work took away 14 hours from me, every day.
Those were the days when I used to come back from work at night 10 tired with not a bit of energy to do anything productive.
Days were passing rapidly fast while preparation was nil. I was mentally pacifying my self with excuses.
I realized my folly when only a month was left for the exam. I was faced with stark reality. I knew my options were limited. I knew it was a battle I had to fight.
I started with planning, made an endowed plan for the remaining 30 days.
After creating plans, fifty percent of the work was done. Now the remaining task was implementing the plans.
I stuck to the plan and followed it religiously. Days passed and my mind was flooded with self-doubts. I ignored them with great difficulty and stuck to the plan. I was hanging there by a thread.
On the D-day, although I sailed through the exam with relative ease, I was not yet fully confident of cracking it.
After a month and a half, the results were out and I had scored way more than what I had expected. I had faced the battle and fought it successfully.
It was sheer grit, determination and blinding focus that helped me achieve my ambition.
