India has 2 very different sides of it. One being the urban sprawl with skyscrapers, shopping malls and highways and the other being the utter poverty with mud houses, overflowing sewage and no food to eat. Coming from a small town in Maharashtra and after spending 5 years in Mumbai, I have closely observed both the sides quite closely. There is a huge difference between the lifestyles of people coming from both parts. I strongly believe that people are the most important asset for any country and hence for a country to grow it is essential to focus on its people, especially the backward section of the society.

There were times when people were not able to get a good night’s sleep whenever it rained because their clay tile roof and walls would leak all night long, sewage would overflow due to lack of proper drainage and septic tank facilities and people defecated in open as there were no toilets. The story has changed in the past few years. Mud houses are being replaced by rock-solid concrete houses. Toilets are being built with proper drainage facilities.

On the other hand, the space issue which almost every metropolitan has been addressing recently is being solved by building tall skyscrapers. Not so durable tar roads are being replaced by durable and easy-to-maintain concrete roads.

The key ingredient that has made all this possible is cement. And UltraTech Cement being the largest cement manufacturer in India has played a pivotal role in this.
