Why ABG is big in my life:
In our country, India, the Aditya Birla Group has quite firmly established its presence, knowingly or unknowingly, in the mind of the public, due to their wide number of verticals and range of diverse products. The Aditya Birla Group has slowly and steadily slid into the culture and daily life of almost every individual including mine.
From the start of my day by checking my phone, a model run by the Vodaphone Idea SIM card to my style in fashion from the dress store Forever 21 for which ABG holds selling rights in India. Being a business school student even my need for a prefect set of formal clothes were met by brands like Van Hussein, Allen Solly, Louis Philippe which are sold through their apparel subsidiaries. Although ABG has found itself playing a huge role in my everyday life the biggest reason due to which I feel Aditya Birla has impacted me is during the time I worked as an article as part of the audit department of Ernst & Young and our clients were financial subsidiaries of the AB group. Day in and day out for three years I have had the opportunity to observe, learn, and grow while working with the most professional and knowledgeable people in the industry, people who I began looking up to. It’s probably expected of India’s third largest private sector conglomerate to be one of the absolute best when it comes to work ethic, but seeing is definitely believing. Apart from just my individual work which was catered to I gained in depth knowledge of the processes, functioning and visions of the ABG group.
Looking back at the experience and maturity I have gained when it comes to the real world ABG has played a huge role cultivating it and looking towards my future as a business school student at XIMB such an experience only gives me an advantage I wish to make complete use of.
How i overcame challenges to achieve my ambitions in life so far:
I believe challenges for every individual appear in different forms and leaves varied impressions on a person. A millennial in the 21st century, only trying to keep up with others in the same boat, which is one huge boat considering the population of our country is definitely not as easy job. I myself have been one of those people who have tried to run the ‘race’ and, in the process, have failed.
Being a bright student all my life, academics was not something that really intimidated me. I pursued the chartered accountancy course and completed the first two levels along with articleship smoothly but the final level proved to be extremely strenuous and for the first time in my life I had failed. There are a number of options for people, when faced with their own worries and challenges, either keep trying, wallow in self pity or get up and try and change your destiny. Hard work in everything, goes without a doubt and hence I decided to focus all my energy into getting into business school, a field I was always passionate about. The decision was challenging and risky considering the time crunch and the advantage that people had who were preparing months in advance. But that did not weaken my focus. Of course, the fear of failure loomed around me but by trusting myself and not letting my self-confidence shatter I gave it my all.
No one’s life is a bed of roses and hard times and challenges are inevitable but with hard work, dedication and an undying spirit today I am part of one of India’s top MBA institutes. As Steve Job rightly said “Sometimes life is going to hit you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith”.
