Aditya Birla Group (ABG), one of the Fortune 500 companies, has contributed immensely to the 14 industries in which it is active. It has its presence in industries that help satisfying basic human needs of food, clothing and shelter.
It is a brand that is synonymous to fashion with brands like Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, Allen Solly and Peter England. The one retail outlet that comes to my mind on thinking of quality and affordable apparel is Pantaloons, a family destination for shopping.
It has brands like ‘Delice’ in the chemical industry that has range of products for bakery processing requirements.
With its cement brand of UltraTech it helps people build ‘homes for life’. It also contributes immensely in infrastructure as its cement business has helped construct Mumbai Sea-Link and national highways, Delhi Metro, Bengaluru Metro among others.
In this age of connectivity, by partnering with Vodafone, Birla group has created India’s largest and world’s second largest telecom company – Vodafone Idea, helping people connect with one another.
Apart from its valuable presence in these industries it also helps build the future by investing heavily in the education sector. It has established reputed institutions like Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS) that provide quality education in under graduation.
The chain of "Birla temples" of grandiose scale and design have become major landmark of the cityscapes of Indian urban life.
Birla group has made it big in social welfare as well through Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development. With these initiatives it touches the life of 7.5 million people in 5,000 villages across geographies.
In India it provides quality education to 46,500 children through 56 schools. Of these 18,000 students belong to the underprivileged segment. Merit Scholarships are also given to children from the interiors. It also provides mid-day meals through Akshaya Patra and other organisations ensuring that children are not malnourished.
Not only in India, but it has ongoing education, healthcare and sustainable livelihood projects in Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Egypt, Korea and Brazil, lifting thousands of people out of poverty.
Thus, since its inception Aditya Birla Group has been expanding and positively impacting the growth and development of the society not only in India but globally.
