The campus here at IIM Kashipur is quite unique compared to other IIMs. Being the only IIM located in a rural background, it is far away from the hustle and bustle of a typical metropolitan and yet you won't feel a moment of humdrum due to the rigour of the curriculum. You can enjoy the vibrant nightlife in the campus and at the same time find a lone spot where you can simply lie down and enjoy the mother nature. This can hardly be found in the congested streets and incessant traffic in big cities.
While many campuses tout themselves to be nature-friendly by putting dustbins in places and planting trees, ours is the one which, in many ways is a part of nature itself. Embraced by the mighty Himalayas on one side and Jim Corbett National Park on the other, the red brick walls of IIM Kashipur is encompassed by nature. The campus is only a few hours away from Nainital which is one of the most popular hill stations in the country.
IIM Kashipur's campus was the first to get operational among the sister IIMs and the construction is still undergoing at a rapid pace. Once completed, the campus will undoubtedly be one of the best in the country. From the majestic academic block to the furnished hostel rooms, from the busy mess complex to the peaceful amphitheatre, 200 plus acre campus of IIM Kashipur has it all.
One of the unique features of IIM Kashipur is the radiant cooling system installed in its hostel block which is one of the many state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities. It employs heat exchangers in between the walls to keep us cool during sweaty summers and warm during chilly winters of Uttarakhand.
The hostel blocks are designed Harvard style. These three-storied buildings have six rooms and a common room on each floor. While you can enjoy your privacy in your room (single occupancy), you can also have endless debates and interaction with your floor mates in the common room. After all, what is MBA without peer discussions! The campus is equipped with almost all sports facilities like Football, Volleyball, Frisbee, Basketball, Badminton, Tennis and Table Tennis. Even Taekwondo practitioner is available on weekly basis to give lessons.
Whenever campus of IIM Kashipur is being discussed, it would be sinful not to discuss what it is like in the winters. The winters usually start around the month of October and by January it is in full force with temperature dwindling to almost 2 degrees. It is difficult to have a clear view of anything beyond fifteen to twenty meters as the campus gets engulfed by the fog. The nights are particularly chilly and we organize bonfire to get both warmth and some great stories of our friends. Mess complex also becomes a hot spot during winters and all of us try to finish our dinner as slowly as possible. When the fog gets cleared, you can have a picturesque view of snow-capped mountains far away kissing the light blue sky. While many students dream of such campus, we at IIM Kashipur live it.
Which ABG company would one want to work for and why?
Although working in any company with the heritage of Aditya Birla Group would be a privilege, however given the choice, the ABG company I would work for would be Aditya Birla Capital Limited. This is due to my personal interest as I am fascinated by the Finance domain. Working in the coveted Asset Management profile in an esteemed organization like ABCL, which is one of the largest financial service provider in India and has achieved significant milestones like the revenue increase of 94.9% YoY would be a dream come true for all finance enthusiasts like me.
