What makes IIM Trichy unique?
Since its inception in 2011, IIM Trichy not only did become synonymous with excellence but also produced leaders who would shape the future of the world. Within seven years of operation, IIM Trichy is able to carve out a niche for itself.
IIM Trichy advocates the importance of achieving excellence and leadership, but it is the focus towards contributing to the welfare of the larger society which makes it exceptional. To enable this IIM Trichy has included ‘Make A Difference’ (MAD) project as part of syllabus where students have to take up any social issue and bring about a change based on their academic learnings and experiences. This initiative is kicked off with ‘MAD Talks’ which showcase stories of successful social entrepreneurs. In addition to this, Trade body Confederation of Indian Industry and Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchirappalli have agreed to work towards the development of Tiruchirappalli city.
To make this vision into reality requires students with a strong academic background. But would only textbook learning suffice? Obviously not. Thus, a mix of learning approaches form the basic building block of knowledge development and sharing at IIM Trichy. An innovative way we follow is learning through movies, in which our Arts club arranges a screening of movie/documentary that addresses a social issue followed by ‘raise your opinion’ session with faculty. IIM Trichy also provides the student with an opportunity to go on the exchange program to get international exposure and understand different business and socio-cultural environment in a global context.
Besides academic focus, IIM Trichy is highly aware of the basic student needs. Keeping this in mind, last year IIM Trichy moved to its permanent campus which is a "home away from home" for the students. The hostels are not only equipped with basic amenities but also has space for socialising, outdoor activities as well as the celebration of festivals. To enable the better experience, the new campus has SMART classrooms and range of equipment’s which gives IIM Trichy strong capabilities to host national/global level event. One such event was 11th ISDSI International Conference that held in December 2017 where academicians, business leaders, research scholars were invited to discuss on areas like research agendas, ideas, performance excellence, etc.
Students at IIM Trichy have won several corporate competitions and others at the national level. The same plays an important role in its success. Beside this IIM Trichy has been emerging as a strong contender in the inter-IIM sports competition, Sangram too.
Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?
I am looking forward to work with Aditya Birla Idea Payments Bank limited. One of the reason is while interning with a Payment gateway start-up, I realised that many regions in India are underserved and tapping into these segments can be highly potential. Meanwhile, in the same time I also got aware about different models for financial services and common challenges in product, channel and promotion.
The idea can play a crucial role in increasing banking penetration in the country and achieve the aim of reformatting India’s financial inclusion space, and it would be great to be part of the same.
