The classes I had during my BTech, intermediate and schooling, were all almost similar. But that was not the case in my class at my b-school. The classes are not lectures but are the purest form of discussions about some cases which were real case scenarios. The professors at b-schools are so-called course instructors and helped in facilitating the discussion. The main thing my classroom taught me is that everyone comes here to learn, even if it was a professor.
Let’s start with the campus. Built inside a 200-acre wide campus with lush green surroundings, the sight of the campus even from a distance is a treat to eyes. The fact that the institute shares its walls with the Police training centre instils a sense of added security among all its students and staff. Built on the highway NH10, it enables a convenient drive from Delhi, making it the only IIM in NCR. Being the first batch in this new campus has provided us the beautiful opportunity of setting up the rich legacy and culture of IIM Rohtak here which will be followed for the next many years to come, which in turn has made our campus way more beautiful for us. Now, talking about the campus life, its proximity to Delhi and other big cities such as Noida and Gurgaon have made it easy for the students to get to every required resource without any hassles. Be it to source a sponsor for the various events held in the campus or the impromptu night-outs to pubs in Hauz Khas or Restaurants in Murthal for their famous Paranthas, everything is easily accessible.
When I think about what makes IIM Rohtak unique, the first thing that comes to my mind is a huge and diverse set of students. It’s like a family which will not only seek the absolute best from each other, but do so with a caring and loving spirit. Business schools are mostly student driven. Think of it as a conglomerate with the different clubs, committees and student interest groups as its subsidiaries. As subsidiaries work for the growth of a company, these clubs, committees and student interest groups work for the growth and welfare of a Business school. But these clubs and committees are functioning in every Business school. Additionally, almost all the students of a b-school are either involved with a club or a committee, right? So what really makes IIM Rohtak unique then? Let us try to understand it with another analogy. We all know that a company is as good as its decision makers. The decisions that they make about the future of the company, its stakeholders, competition, differentiation, sustainability and the likes are vital to the growth of the company. Same is the case with a b-school. And that’s where we stand out from the competition. The students here at IIM Rohtak are a highly motivated bunch invested in almost all the activities, be it corporate competitions, quizzes, cultural events, sports, case studies and what not. The desire to learn and implement can be seen among the students. The students are involved in organising various events and activities aimed at enhancing industry exposure through the likes of management summits, guest lectures with industry stalwarts etc. The institute also advocates entrepreneurship through the means of a dedicated entrepreneurship cell driven by students only. Few of the institute’s alumni have already started a venture of their own and are doing well. These success stories act as a motivation for the students and encourage them to pursue their goals. The institute also believes in giving back to the society. Students are involved in conducting various events related to social causes and welfare of the society. Mini-Marathon is the flagship event of IIM Rohtak which is organised every year and is aimed at increasing awareness among the masses about the issues prevalent in the society. Though the campus is still under construction both in terms of infrastructure and intellectual capital, it gives the students more than enough wings to explore the sky galore with opportunities such as this prestigious competition. IIM Rohtak, the 8th and Oldest among the 2nd generation IIMs has been one of the fastest growing IIMs in India with a variety of achievements brought over by its esteemed faculty and meritorious students.
It has just been over a year now since I joined Indian Institute of Management, Rohtak. It took a lot of sleepless nights and uncompromised efforts to ace the CAT and receive interview calls from the coveted Indian Institutes of Management only to realize that my journey to converting an IIM was only halfway through. Post the long and tiring though exalting WAT and interview process, on 22nd of May 2017 what I finally received was probably the best of e-mails I could have ever received in my life, a mail asking for my confirmation of a seat for the post graduate programme (2017-2019) at IIM Rohtak. Having been working with an IT firm back then I gave in my resignation to be processed by my expected date of joining. Getting all the formalities done with I embarked upon a journey which would turn out to be one of the best events of my life.
By every passing minute, each student of IIM Rohtak is striving towards making their successful dream careers, I being none of the exception. My experience at IIM Rohtak had presented me with opportunities, challenges, and celebrations as well dejections. All these moments have moulded me into the kind of person I am and the change is most satisfying.
