“A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.” Doing MBA from a reputed B school like IIM Shillong is a dream for many but only few are able to convert it into reality. I belong to the lucky lot. The day I got a call from IIM Shillong, I started my research and wanted to put in my best efforts to capitalise upon this opportunity. IIM Shillong is the seventh oldest IIM in the country and has made a great mark for itself in the past 10 years. The day I received my admission offer letter from IIM Shillong will always be marked as the best day of my life. I was so excited that I couldn’t sleep for 3 days. I was never fascinated by just the “IIM” brand tag of IIM Shillong. When I looked through the curriculum of IIM Shillong, I realised it was the only IIM offering 84 elective options to choose from, hence providing its students to study and specialise in a domain they have interest. It is also the only IIM which focusses on sustainability in management practises. In today’s world, climate change, depletion of resources, water scarcity etc have become pressing issues, they are threats to human existence. IIM Shillong understands the gravity of the situation and is trying to educate the future managers to take sustainable decisions which will be good for the society and environment as well as the businesses. There is a special foundation course on sustainability management and as part of the course we go to a sustainability trek, it is the highlight of the course. The trek is breathtakingly beautiful.

IIM can be a broad target but every IIM has a USP of its own and that happened to be a deciding factor for me to decide which one to target. IIM Shillong has an image associated with the concept of sustainability and has proved time and again that sustainability can be brought into the business without hampering its profitability. No matter how much we claim to be the products of fast and moving world, there is something about values and moral that lingers within you for long and this is something that I witnessed. Where the business world has a bad image for it’s by hook or by crook approach, a method where the values are given a preference over profit, is certainly something to look out for and I am happy I got a chance to be a part of such a society.

Staying true to the name CampuSInClouds, here right in the middle of the class, fog fills up the class. The professor has to wait for some time to clear out the fog. This is one of the rarest scenes that I have ever witnessed. The campus has that vintage kind of feel.

I don’t know what kept me awake – was it the excitement of going home after a year or the dream that had just become true. I have graduated in 2016 from VNIT Nagpur and started working as a Data Analyst. After working for more than a year I felt that my learning has stopped and my work got repetitive. So in June, I have decided to have prepared diligently for CAT 2017. I had 6 months to prepare and it was quite a task to manage both my job and CAT preparation. In August, I managed to enrol in a coaching class and started taking mocks. The initial marks were disappointing but I quickly scaled up in a span of 2 months.
