IIM Shillong - An Experience Like No Other
State of the art Infrastructure, amazing Faculty, great peers and so on are the things that all B-schools offer. The question here is what else can a B-School give?

“Being challenged in life is inevitable, being defeated is optional.”
The journey of getting into a B-School is a story in itself of being able to successfully handle tension and depression that come along. There are both ups and downs, mostly downs, but I think in the end all that matters is how we deal with those downs and emerge stronger.
As I entered the gates of IIM Shillong, I felt the anxiety yet the excitement to start the most awaited journey of my life. One look at the new surroundings, this place felt like a strange planet with so many aliens residing in it. But in such a short span of time which I have spent here, this place has started feeling like home and every face seems so familiar. I have always appreciated how beautifully diverse humans are, more so in the way they think and behave. With every face comes a set of unique characteristics, so quirky yet so much to look out for. Some of the people I have met here are among the best people I have met in my life. So let me introduce you to some of them….
21st June 2018! The day it all began. 180-something of us entered the beautiful campus with our big hopes, aspirations and dream; all contained in conscious smiles and bright eyes which were busy scanning the other participants to identify the ones we met during our interviews. Well, I found none!
Being Homesick is not a word you’ll commonly hear here in IIM Shillong because you feel like you have been part of this world for as long as you can remember.
Life at IIM Shillong is unlike that at any other B-School. Here at IIM Shillong, we, the participants of both batches, live as a family. Everyone is on a first name basis with everyone else, and we all stand by each other through thick and thin. We celebrate all our major festivals together, from Diwali and Holi to Dahi Handi and Janmashtami. Spending the entirety of two years with each other, we form life long bonds, characterized by care and loyalty. IIM Shillong puts a major focus on peer learning. Our fellow PGP mates are from diverse backgrounds and have had vastly varying experiences. The facilitators encourage us to learn from each other and expand our knowledge base. We call it KASH. We are all here to build a Knowledge base, a positive Attitude, Skills to apply our knowledge, and Habits to enforce it through discipline.
This is a hall. You enter and in the first row, you see a guy who is most probably taller than you. He is a CFA and you just have to look at his face (once) to know that he resembles a giant puppy. No, there is nothing wrong with his face, but he brings the same energy to the room that a puppy will when it is given a new chew toy and friends to play with it. You move to the second row and find a strong and fierce yet caring and really funny engineer. She is a national level athlete and has a heart of a teddy bear. However, beware of her temper for she can strike back as smoothly as a cobra, if angered. You move further and encounter the most chill lawyer that you could have ever met. He will make sure that you never get bored and the environment never gets too somber. Sometimes, this backfires and more often than not he ends up getting a personal lecture from the professors. You go deeper and you will meet a guy who fell in love over a decade ago and vows to cherish and pursue it, till the day he will die. Math. He loves mathematics. This is a guy who has the most stoic face while sitting in the lectures. But, the moment you give him some statistical questions he will grin a grin of satisfaction. His eyes will light up and unknowingly he will make you feel really dumb just by doing what he loves. He is an engineer from IIT Madras. I know, big shocker. Oh, but there is more. A girl who is mostly lost in her own tunes and perhaps will break into a song even if she is slightly bored. It does not matter if it is the girls’ loo or the back of the classroom. She finds solace in braiding hair whenever she feels restless. It need not be her hair. Anyone with long hair will do. She uses weird makeup hacks and can actually pull it off.
