It was 14th June, 2018 when I stepped inside the MDI campus. Roaming around the red-brick academic buildings left me mesmerized to the core. The strategically located campus in the heart of corporate hub of NCR, gives one an immense opportunity to learn from the industry leaders, compete and showcase their skills among/to the best minds of the nation.
My journey in MDI started with drastic transformation in my routine as well as personality. This one month was full of excitement, enriching exposure and rigour. First time in my life I got golden opportunity to interact with corporate leader and listen to their views on MBA, purpose of life and their rich experiences. For me, this one month set the perfect foundation for my vision and view of life. It was after long time that I paused for a moment to realise the real purpose of life.
Today, that is 15th July, 2018 it has been a month since I joined MDI Gurgaon. The first week in MDI was a week of “awe”, a self-realization that you have actually made it to this place and the sheer legacy of this place consumes you. Those stories you have heard from seniors, your CAT coaching mentors unfolding and showing glimpses of how a b-school life would be. As the induction week kicks in the reality check follows, sitting in an auditorium with a batch of 360, you realize that you have to face the competition against some of the bright minds of the country, not only for grades but also for club selections, sports team trials, class reps selection, you find yourself competing against the best in the country. Nothing comes easy and to compete is the only way out. For someone like me from a mediocre undergrad college when compared to my batch mates from IIT’s, NIT’s, SRCC, Chartered Accountants and a rare doctor, the realization of competing with them for even a single little credit made me realize the kind of competition I am going to face. Before I joined MDI the biggest fear that I had in my mind was that will I be able to make friends among people from top colleges of the country. But to my surprise, while working round the clock, submissions, activities and all the random stuff that came our way, I found people who were always there for me. From waking each other up to crying after feeling homesick, from making fun of each other to having meals together we turned into families. This realization dawned upon me during the KOK week. I was playing Badminton for my section and when the match started, my classmates turned up to cheer for me despite being sleep deprived, burdened with assignments and various other activities. It has been rightly said that “The great thing about new friends is that they bring new energy to your soul”.MDI is filled with amazing people from all across the country and it feels great to be a part of this institution.
The most unique thing I would say about my campus is the doors of opportunities it offers to all students. These opportunities I believe are different from what most Colleges offer. The Campus constitutes a combination of cultures, ethnicities, and various other subcultures. I found the academic atmosphere most inviting. The Institute is embodied by the students every day is Integrity, Scholarship, Community, Creativity, and Excellence. These core values influence our daily decisions and allow us to enrich our campus. the student organizations further maximize the opportunity to expand social connections, encourage leadership, and make a difference in students’ lives. The classroom buildings, dorms, student facilities and the Basketball Court are all within walking distance.
MDI is my first experience in full time residential course, for the first time in my life I am and will be away from my family for my studies. Living in the college hostel has been an altogether different perspective for me. I am getting to know people a lot better here than I did anywhere else, I have become a much more confident person in this short period of time.
We, at IIM Raipur, are currently staying at a temporary campus in Sejbahar, Raipur. The campus is unique in its own way. We share our campus with IIT Bhilai and also the Government Engineering College, Raipur.
It was midway through April that I had made the decision of joining Management Development Institute, Gurgaon. I had decided that it was the best place to shape my career and with fervour had accepted the offer. The initial scepticism I had about leaving my home for the first time was soon enough replaced by enthusiasm once I had interacted with a few of my batchmates informally before we joined. I was looking forward to being a part of the diverse batch that is offered by MDI and ready to carve an identity of my own amidst the crowd.
