Management Development Institute – 3 words that express numerous things. It has just been over a month since I joined the college but this short time has brought along with it a plethora of experiences. This one month has brought along with it mixed emotions. From the highs to the lows we have experienced it all and still wait for more. Sleepless nights to hectic schedules, meeting deadlines and case analysis everything has been different for me.
To understand my choice to go with IIM Udaipur for MBA, we need to go back to the day I applied for CAT. When I was applying for CAT, I was not serious about doing an MBA. But I applied anyway as my friend/flatmate encouraged me to do it because I was always telling him how my job became a routine and nothing new is happening. He said it would be good for me and I was convinced. Then started the preparation or the lack of it. I was not able to prepare much as I was busy with the work. The day of the examination came very quickly, and it was decent.
After the strenuous journey of cracking CAT and the GDPI rounds, we all were among the few who could convert and get an opportunity for studying in one of the most flourishing and top b-school of the country i.e. IIM Udaipur.
It was the 4th of July, 2018, the clock struck 08:20 and I had just reached the classroom. The one thing which IIM-Udaipur is actually very serious about are the values on which it is established – academic excellence and integrity being one of them. So I rushed to the classroom well before time and found out that the only person who reached the classroom before me was our professor of “Managerial oral Communication” – Prof. Rakesh Godhwani. The very first thing which struck me about him was the curiosity and elegance with which he greeted me “Good Morning” as if I was some client who he wanted to impress. That was the first lesson of my day, “No matter how tired or bored you feel, no matter whether you are the boss or the janitor, no matter whether you are a student or a teacher, you should always greet the person if you happen to exchange a smile”. This sense of mutual respect is something that we human beings crave for. The next 4.5 hours passed in a jiffy as none of the 65 people sitting in the classroom felt bored or even like sloshing in the chair for a while. Prof. Rakesh Godhwani, a Ph.D. from Cardiff Metropolitan University in Leadership Communication taught us about the nitty-gritty and nuances of communication, be it verbal or non-verbal, and also talked about his journey, right from NIT Suratkal to Cardiff Metropolitan University. But there were few specific instances when I was seriously taken aback and I would like to mention a few of them in brief.
Last year when I was preparing for CAT, I read that IIMs are looking for diversity in upcoming batches which reduced chances of an engineer like me to get into IIM. But with lots of determination and hard work (just kidding!) I got selected for IIM Udaipur. IIM Udaipur is not an outlier to diversity factor and I had heard that most of my batch mates will be from different background and with a mix of freshers and work experience people. After spending more than 2 weeks in IIM Udaipur now, I realized IIM Udaipur has a special kind of personality diversity too. I have met some “interesting” people which really makes our batch diversified (not the type institute desires I guess). Here are few of those people:
Indian Institute of Management Udaipur, a.k.a IIM U has carved its name on the Golden red Quartz rocks of Udaipur as well as the Management Institutes across India. Standing right on the peak of Balicha (Rajasthan), with an image of Fortress, very well known as the natural sets of ‘Game of Thrones’, having an overall area spreading 300 acres into the lush green hills, here we stand with the Strength of Excellence and Power of being Majestic. Being in IIM U is in itself a wonderful experience one can have in a lifetime. Away from the buzz of the city and crowd, the campus at IIM U is known for its peaceful and blissful ambience around it.
