“Nothing worth having comes easy” has been the motto of my life. I always dreamt of pursuing MBA from one of the top institutes of India. When I came to know that I was shortlisted for IIFT-Delhi, my happiness knew no bounds though I was a bit apprehensive about being out of my comfort zone for the first time as I am going to stay away from my parents, my city and everything that I knew for years. I felt that this was the biggest challenge for me. Then the day came when I finally reached Delhi. With a lot of apprehensions and even a bigger dream, I entered the campus of IIFT. I kind of had a sense of satisfaction that my hard work has borne fruit.
There are only a few achievements in one’s lifetime that feel so surreal and currently sitting in Foreign Trade Library, I find myself mesmerized by the same feel. I can’t help but to imagine that I’m sitting on the same leather chair on which Mr. S. K. Roongta or Mr. Shashikant Venkateshmay have sat when they were reading business cases.
I remember the flustered date it was 25/07/2018, loads of bags and an empty mind was with which I walked in. There was a cram of students and I unwillingly became a part of it. I completed my registration and went up straight to my assigned room, as I entered a deviant feeling crossed my mind. What if I don’t belong here? Do I have the choice of going back? But then I met two cute angels who were actually impostor of a devil. Yes, they are my roommates who didn’t make me feel that I am out of space and its okay to feel that way. We instantly connected and spent our first night trying to figure out what if we wanted to be a duck?
A salesman happened to survey me right at the completion of my first week at IIFT. The first week – Oh wait! – let me first walk you through the short survey he took.
Everyone has a phase in life during which things don’t go in the right way. Everything in your life starts to tear apart. At this point of time you look up to someone or something for some source of inspiration to rise up once again. To try to stand against the circumstances that are holding you down. For me and I firmly believe for many of my fellow IIFTians it is “Wings of Wisdom”. This symbol of knowledge always manages to inspire me to scale new heights. The sculpture holding books gives me the message about the importance of books in one’s life to achieve whatever the heights one wants to.
IIFT is the stencil which structures the lives of many students into the relatively more efficacious career. The plethora of knowledge and guidance shared by the senior batch is the ray of light which is leading to the destination of success with ease for all of us – the new joiners. This is the fact which makes IIFT different from any other premier B-School. Here, senior batchmates are our first friends which are available 24*7 to assist us, guide us and help us out for each petty issue. Then, comes our own batchmates! In just 2 weeks we formed a bond like we knew each other for months. IIFT provided us friends who are there for each other at any time. We do everything as a group, as a single team and not different individuals and that is what makes IIFT, the heaven for all MBA Aspirants. Apart from the exclusive specialization in International Business, IIFT’s culture of treating everyone whether its students, esteemed faculty, managing board, staff members and all the other helpers as one single family with due respect to each and every member make IIFT one of its kind. As far as, faculties are concerned they are the ones who put more efforts than us to help us making a glorious career by providing us with the subject knowledge in the as interactive and practical way as possible so as to inculcate illustrative understanding in the minds of potential managers. Though it is not easy, to sum up, all about IIFT in one sentence, putting all my literary skills into play, IIFT is paradise for budding managers.
The Delhi campus of Indian Institute of Foreign Trade has three different hostels. One of them is situated out of the campus. Before joining Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, I had no prior experience of hostel life. I was excited, but all of a sudden, two days before joining I came to know that my room has been allocated in the hostel which is situated out of the campus. Popularly it is known as C9, the plot number of the building. I was a bit sad, as I thought life at C9 would not be as eventful as in campus hostels.
