Hey! Amber, It’s 02:00 pm. Get ready soon. We have our first FSA (Financial Statement Analysis) class from 02:00 pm.
25th June, the day I, a Potterhead, joined one of the best B-School in India – Indian Institute of Foreign Trade with huge bags filled with hopes, dreams, aspirations of achieving great heights of success and of course, clothes too. Entering into the campus fills you with a sense of awe as the first thing that you come across is the ‘Wings of Wisdom’ which is a majestic piece of art. One looks at it and you feel the magic that flows in the campus. On this note, our Induction started which was no less exciting and intriguing for me as the Sorting Hat process was for Harry. Prior to joining the college, I had no idea about the rigorous process of our induction was. Our induction served the purpose of the trailer of the movie that our two years of MBA are going to be and I would be lying if I say that I did not like the trailer. During this one week, seniors worked very hard and prepared us for all the possibilities, challenges & difficulties we might face by giving glimpses of it.
Well it has been two weeks since I joined IIFT Delhi and I do have a lot to share. Starting with the first week of IIFT, we had an Induction process formulated by our seniors. In this process, there were many tasks, and one of them was named “Show me the Money”. The main aim of this task was to get on the streets of Delhi and earn as much money as possible. Your team can contribute only ₹500. You can buy some items using this money and resell them to generate profit, or your team can also provide services. So, our team went into Connaught Place and we divided ourselves in two groups so that we can maximize our chances. I got the idea of asking GK questions to people. Basically, we were going to ask 5 questions to people, if they get it right we pay them ₹30 and if they answer even a single question wrong, they would have to pay us ₹30. After around 1 hour we earned approximately ₹650. Then our group went to help another group. There we came up with a plan to start a game of throwing 3 lemons in a basket. So basically, a person had to pay ₹20 to enter the competition and he was given 3 lemons, out of which he had to throw all 3 lemons to win it. On winning he would get ₹50 as a reward. So, we managed to pull a huge crowd, so much so that we had to sometimes do crowd control. In 45 minutes, we earned around ₹1600. In total, our earning was ₹2250. I had the best experience of my life in this task, which I would never forget in my life where I got to learn a lot of things about how to earn money. I learnt how we can use innovative techniques to pull huge crowds and at the same time, make people believe in our ideas.
Straight out of undergraduate college, I landed at IIFT with great hopes and aspirations.
Our beloved institute IIFT constitutes of an Academic block, an Administration block, two hostel blocks within the campus AND then there is C9. C9, the address of the boys hostel which is approximately 700 meters away from the main campus, is loved by some for the freedom it provides but dreaded by most (at least for the initial months).
On the very first time when I entered the IIFT campus for orientation on 25th June I was greeted by the ‘Wings of Wisdom’ which is the symbol of knowledge. Seeing it spontaneously inspired me to stretch to new heights. The campus is at a unique place in Qutub Institutional Area with Sanjay Van opposite to it and the view of the Qutub Minar visible from some rooms. The campus is green and its close proximity to Sanjay Van makes the IIFT campus a protective pollution free bubble in one of the most polluted city of the world. Post orientation the real fun started when our first interaction with seniors started.
My time spent here in IIFT has been an amalgamation of both expected and unexpected Expected was the part where I knew I’d be entering a rigorous schedule where the only thing I’d be sacrificing would be my sleep. Unexpected was the part where I found out that my body can function phenomenally well when kept under constant duress and 22 hour workdays for a week during the induction program.
