My time spent here in IIFT has been an amalgamation of both expected and unexpected
Expected was the part where I knew I’d be entering a rigorous schedule where the only thing I’d be sacrificing would be my sleep. Unexpected was the part where I found out that my body can function phenomenally well when kept under constant duress and 22 hour workdays for a week during the induction program.
A wise man (Read : Senior) once said that “When you feel your body can no longer support you and you feel like giving up, that’s when you’ve only utilised 40% of its resources.” And even though pangs of frustration and feelings of vexation did give me thoughts too unpleasant to type here, I’d love to acknowledge here with a slight chuckle about how right he was. That officially was my first out of many future lessons I hope to take from this place.
In the consequent days of the induction program, I learned a few more things about peer harmony and unity that I’d remember for a long time. From having quick fire meals in 7 minutes with 4 friends eating out of one plate to shouting the countdown on the clock so as to urge your ‘roomies’ and ‘loomies’ (yes its exactly what you think it is) to rush in order to catch the lift going down from the sixth floor, the feeling of cohesiveness and unity that developed in such a duration was no short of a miracle. Though credit where credit is due, the seniors made us do that by holding us responsible and punishing us for the absence and delay of any of our roomies and/or loomies, yet I’d like to believe that it was something special.
And special it indeed was, as when I look back now I feel that I’m different. The fact that I am able to be a part of this elite institute and underwent a gruelling week unique to IIFT which saw us sustaining on a one-hour sleep schedule for an entire week and still be productive, has instilled in me a sense of power and belief, And I truly believe that I can emulate this sense of power and belief at my workplace. I’d like to work at Madura Fashion and Lifestyle under the Louis Phillipe brand as it reverberates the same ideologies that I exude. This will also give me an opportunity to work in a dynamic and ever-changing environment of fashion retail and starting a career with an established stalwart of its segment such as LP will be a great learning experience.
