It’s been 3 weeks and I still cannot get enough of what is popularly known as the ‘’Campus in Clouds’’. Time really flies out here and I say this at a moment when there is such a rigor that doesn’t allow time to relax and unwind in one of the most beautiful campuses. No wonder how fast it will fly when there will be moments of respite from the hectic schedule of MBA.
It was my first week as an official participant of IIM Shillong, and this week was one of the most exciting weeks that I have experienced in my life. It started with learning about sustainability, a practice that IIM Shillong has deep in its roots, we learnt about sustainability from the perspective of various domains, how incorporating sustainability can help a business grow and be successful in a way that it not only preserves the environment but help it recover from the damage that already has been done.
Cool breeze, brisk drizzles, steep slopes, sparkling eyes and confident faces: it defines one of the most prestigious business school of our country, Indian Institute of Management Shillong. I was on cloud nine when I got accepted into Campus in Clouds, the 7th addition to the IIM family. Like every great institute of the world, IIM S has a culture of its own with unique traits found nowhere else. Most important being the emphasis on the importance of sustainability in our life. Sustainability is not only preached but also practised here in day to day affairs. This is the most distinguished feature of our institute and we have a dedicated course for it.
Campus in Clouds, IIM Shillong is a picturesque abode. IIM Shillong campus with its palatial building and regal drive-in, the bounteous flowery gardens on either side of the sloping drive-in and the pine trees lining the campus and the glorious sun rises beyond miles of wooden rooftops and mist-clad hills. The picturesque environment plays a big role in gruelling journey to becoming qualified managers.
At around 12 in night , I was watching an IPL match and suddenly there was a notification tone on the phone. I picked up the phone and ……….surprise. I was stunned for a moment. That was an offer letter from IIM Shillong. I could not handle the happiness. I woke up everyone in my house to give them this really good news. Then, I just got my loan sanctioned, did a lot of shopping and booked my tickets for Shillong.
I have worked in Bangalore for 2.5 years in IT sector. Being the fastest developing city in India one can surely see the signs of development there like big offices, luxury cars and malls and a fast-paced life. But that illusion of fast-paced life comes to an end as soon as one comes out on the streets and faces traffic jams.
Popularly known as Campus in the clouds, this place mesmerized me right when I set foot in it. The lush green hillock with IIM SHILLONG written on it, instilled a sense of pride in me. The campus resonated with positivity all around. After months of hard work I was finally at an IIM, that too the most beautiful one.
Choosing a B-School is an important decision for any student or a professional. A plethora of parameters ranging from placements, opportunities, exposure, academics and many more are considered by everyone. IIM Shillong qualified all the criteria, but the location was still a big question for me. At the end I decided to come, far away from home, to not only learn from the course but also learn about the new culture.
