When we think of a B-School, the mental image of big campuses, great infrastructure, and hostel life comes to our mind. This image is shattered when students first see the Red Building of Dreams. However, people don’t realize is that the campus of FMS is not limited to this single building. As a part of the University, FMS has access to the premium infrastructure of North campus and south campus. The University Conference centre hosts the large meetings for us. One can’t ignore the charm of Kamla Nagar market and Hudson Lane. Our annual sports events are held at the best of the venues developed during the Commonwealth Games. At last, we our located in the National Capital of India.

The University of Delhi is one of the oldest and largest universities in India. Located in the very heart of old Delhi, the capital of India, it offers 86 academic disciplines divided into 16 faculties of which the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) or the “Red Building of Dreams” as its popularly known as is one of the smallest. Its a very humble building, with not a lot of glamour as one would expect but its not the building but the people inside that make it the dream of multitudes. Its interior houses some of the most experienced faculty and the best students from India. The diversity in terms of the background and experiences of the students is amazing to behold. Management involves using the available resources to the achieve maximum output, and this cannot be truer for any other college than FMS. Even with the limited infrastructure and paucity of resources the students and faculty work twice as hard to maintain their ranking as one of the top 5 B schools in India. Also if one looks at the whole North campus of University of Delhi, it is a beautiful one with the Kamla Nehru Ridge forest located right inside the campus. The fests here are some of the most amazing ones be it the SRCC’s Crossroads, Hindu College’s Mecca, Miranda House’s Tempest and FMS’ very own Fiesta. The choice for food joints here is humungous. From the coolest cafe’s at Hudson Lane to the finger-licking street food at the famous Momo’s point, Chache Di Hatti, Vaishnav Chaat Bhandaar & Bille di Hatti, the campus caters to all gastronomical appetites. Also, last but not the least the old Delhi charm makes this place full of culture and vibrant.

When I first read about top b-schools, the mental image of big campuses, great infrastructure, a wonderful hostel is formed in our mind. The same is witnessed when I visited Noida campus of IIM-L for my interview. But when I first entered FMS, I saw a Red Building. I tried to look beyond but couldn't find anything and all my mental images are shattered. After spending some days at FMS, I understood that all the weaknesses, we have in the form of resources or infrastructure are boon for us. These weaknesses teach us the real-life scenario we will face once we got out of industry. Whatever project we do, we will always face some resource crunch. In this way, FMS has prepared us for difficult situations and we will be able to adjust whatever we will face in future. That’s our college ’Red Building of Dreams’.

The main thing about this campus is its resources. Unlike other B schools, Faculty of Management Studies has limited resources. But that doesn't stop it from reaching excellence. It knows well about utilizing resources and make maximum out of it. This makes students more adaptive and they can get fit into any sort of environment. Apart from that, the small batch size gives students the benefit of knowing each other and get interactive to share experience, which provides excellent peer to peer learning.

It has been around a month and I have had a range of experience in such a small interval. The time has been amazing. Ours is a small campus and the batch strength is also small, 210, so the batch gets closely knit during the induction program that we have before the official classes start. The sessions remain very engaging and tasks are floated in the sessions and random teams are made. There are so many of these tasks that by the end of induction you get to be in teams with almost all the students in the batch and this helps in creating a bond, like that of a family. The domain specific societies that are run here are totally student run and thus there is better communication to the junior batch as the session taking seniors completely understand the situation of their juniors and how to go about solving them. There is a lot learned in these sessions which helps not only in the curriculum but better understanding the type of roles we will be supposed to carry out once we start our corporate life. This close-knit relation between the juniors and seniors makes my campus unique.
