IIM Sirmaur located in the district Sirmaur is located in the outer Himalayas which is commonly known as the Shivalik range. Like other parts of Himachal Pradesh, it has beautiful landscapes, bracing climate, big and small game and legendary temples which hold an abiding attraction for the tourists.
It was an organizational behavior class, conducted by Mandi sir, his real name is T. Prasad and due to his fond dedication for promoting “Mahamandi” an entrepreneurship event held at NITIE, everyone calls him “Mandi sir”. He always brings some new articles(small good) in class and distribute it among students, then tells them to sell it, using the scientific concepts that we have learnt in our college or school level. He has a philosophy that “BECH BECH KE SEEKHO, SEEKH SEEKH KE SAMJHO”, but traditionally we do exact opposite to it, we first understand the concepts than apply them to real world. He tells us that the day you enter into the management school, your only work is to apply the concepts you have learnt and sells your ideas in most effective manner. One day he selects two students from the class and ask them to communicate 3X2 using Lego boxes. First made a cuboid of 2X3 and the other made three cuboids each of 2X1. The class need to decide whose explanation is better. Most the students said that the explanation of second student is most understandable, because even a layman could understand it. Through this small activity he tells us that “selling your ideas is more dependent on the way the other person perceives it”. He tells us, before selling anything, you need to have knowledge of other persons perception, his need, his education & you should be able to guess his reaction even before him. Then on the same day he distributes Posters to us and promotes “Mahamandi” through us, we all gathers together and took photos, and everyone have to post it on his/hers Facebook account as an assignment. His class is always a “give and take” kind of , and it’s a funny deal for all of us.
It was a usual Tuesday morning, I with my usual 3 hours of sleep with my eyes puffed, running and panting to reach the class on time. In one hand there is sandwich and the on other hand there is umbrella for the unexpected rains of Mumbai. Luckily, I reached the class on time and sat on the last row, as usual. I noticed something strange that everyone was serious, and it was not like the usual morning session, with morning handshakes and high fives. Suddenly everyone stands and then by looking at the professor I realized that it was our business communication lecture with a very different professor, PROFESSOR T PRASAD a.k.a. PROFESSOR MANDI. And then the lecture began with the first few minutes professor trying to settle himself. Today professor has a different task to advertise the MAHA MANDI and was asking suggestions from us how to promote it, and how to attract more and more people. Suddenly something struck his mind, he opened his bag and took out previous years, old posters of MANDI. He distributed them among ourselves. At first, we were all silent and thinking what the professor was trying to do. The professor went at the right corner of the class, picked up the boy and, CLICKED A SELFIE WITH HIM WITH MANDI POSTER IN FRAME.
A new phase of my life began on 27th June, 2017 when I received a mail mentioning the much-awaited confirmation of my admission into the Indian Institute of Management, Kashipur. I had a short window to complete my further proceedings and life was never the same since then as I had my first challenge of managing my time constructively even before stepping into the college. I had a baggage of emotions primly being determined to perform at "The" place and anxiety.
The Government of India finally decided to settle on with Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh for establishing its 19th Indian Institute of Management. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet at a strategic location-we call it #TheHimalayanIIM. Apart from having the unique culture of IIMs which it inherited, the unique traits which this IIM has, differentiates it from other IIMs. Though the IIM is presently located in the temporary campus of Himachal Institute of Technology, it has been generously allotted a spacious campus with a stretch of 210 acres of green land under its kitty. Since the institute is yet to see the new campus, the present campus has more to offer to its students with its limited infrastructural resources.
Sitting in the lap of Himachal, wrapped with the lush green mountains and backed by the river Yamuna is the beautiful, peaceful and soothing campus of the Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur. A typical morning here starts not with the deafening horns of the heavy vehicles running on the city roads and scream of the chimneys of the factories around, but with the chirping of the birds, announcing the arrival of the first sunrays of the day which may strike right at your face if you’re lucky enough to get a hostel room facing the east. The mountain-fresh air becomes your natural source of energy and you suddenly realize that you’ve brought peace to your lungs at least for the next two years of your life. The monsoons add to the scenic beauty of the place. The rains take the beauty of the campus to a different dimension altogether. They tempt you to leave your rooms and dance to celebrate. The beauty of nature around doesn’t stop. You forget to blink when you see the clouds flowing through the mountains silently and slowly. And you realize that your college doesn’t look any less than a hill station. The cherry on the cake is that you’re going to stay here for a long period of time with your friends, a lot of good friends. To cool off, you needn’t go to the bars and the pubs, but there are soothing and entertaining destinations like Rishikesh and Mussoorie. For the people who long for spiritual peace, there is the whole of Himachal and Uttarakhand where you get world famous treks, mountain peaks, monasteries and what not! The college is a lit choice for the students who are fond of riding bikes and cycles. The flawless curvy roads wrapped around some of the best hilly areas give you the pleasure of a riding along with stunning scenery on the way.
Clearing CAT and getting selected in one of the IIMs will always be a great achievement. Filled with thrill, anxiety and a lot of expectations for our new journey we reached the campus surrounded by mountains and a beautiful breeze by the Yamuna. Hence our journey started with induction and life took the rush. After the induction, we were introduced about the rules and regulations by our seniors and what could be better than a motivation speech by our Placement Secretary and not mentioning just after few days the ice-breaking sessions arranged by our seniors was really a time where we became friendly with them. Well, this is just a glimpse of what makes my campus unique.
Last month, I board a plane to Mumbai from Ranchi and it was my first flight journey and so why it is not exciting as I was getting admission to National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE).
