Stepping through the entrance of the legendary red-brick building was an incredible experience. The legacy of the place commanded reverence. The classrooms, the floors, everything immortalizes the heritage that lies within the walls of this building. The eagerness and exhilaration to be a part of this institute was complemented with a speck of intimidation.
IIM Rohtak had shifted to its new campus this year, and the excitement is beyond expression. All the students were looking forward to stepping into a land where they have no externally imposed constraints. After going through the high-resolution pictures of beautifully designed buildings, students were flooded with energy to encounter the pure air at the peripheries of the city themselves.
As soon as I heard the term IIM culture, a question struck my mind: What is the difference between tradition and culture? Well, few months later, I got my answer. Let me explain this to you exactly the way I understood it.
To go or not to go was the first question that ran through my mind when the converted letter from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar arrived in my mailbox. This is when I sat down with a pen and paper to do a pros and cons analysis to re-affirm my decision to pursue my Masters of Business Administration from this esteemed and venerable institute but deep down in my heart of hearts I knew that this is the place that would harbinger my evolution into the professional that I aspire to be. And on my arrival into these hallowed halls, I realised that I was right.
Udaipur is a beautiful city of lakes also known as “The Venice of the east”. Permanent campus of IIM Udaipur is located near Balicha in Udaipur. Every day is unique here in IIM Udaipur, as you’ll get to learn something new, interaction with faculties and peers, and hostel life where we learn and enjoy a lot.
When I stare back into my life, I find that the last one year has brought me unique experiences, unique opportunities, and unique learnings, and most of that is because of my campus, which is unique in itself, and I’m proud of it.
I was on cloud nine, when I got the news that I have been selected for the two years program of Business management in XIMB. There wasn’t any second thought in my mind, since I was going to be a part of a life-changing experience through campus life, that only very few top b-schools boasts of. Ever since its establishment in 1987, XIM Bhubaneswar has been turning students into industry ready professionals. Not only is it known for its quality and rigorous academic programmes, but it also widens opportunities for the students to establish a connect between theory and practise. Working on live projects enhances one’s domain knowledge, analytical skills and helps one to be aware of the current happenings in the industry. The faculties are known to be one of the best and experienced ones from the industry, who believe in practical oriented pedagogy. I have been following their research publications before coming to this institute and they have always inspired me to get a chance to be their student. I had heard from many of the Alumnus that the faculties are friendly and show concern for student’s personal and professional growth. All the activities in the college are student-driven; there are a large number of core, functional and interest committees, which a student can be a part of. Being a part of any committee is an enriching experience, since it helps in overall development, provides an opportunity to work in teams, learn about management practically and maintain a proper balance between academics and the committee related activities. The institute also boasts of a respectable Summer Internship and final placement figures, thanks to its vast network of 7000 plus Alumnus, who are working in leadership positions in various top-notch organisations. Also, the institute has an affiliation with many of the reputed International institutes, which provides the student with international exposure through Student Exchange Programme. I do believe that I have made the right choice and I am sure that I will be a better version of myself at the end of two years.
With the sense of achievement of acing CAT, comes the humongous task of selecting the institute where you would spend next 2 years of your life. And as time flies by, it is crucial that each moment of those two years is worth living and learning to the fullest. From analyzing the placement report to the evaluation of the course pedagogy offered, choosing the institute often seems daunting due to the various facets involved. One of the facets that is often overlooked is the campus culture.
