What best defines JBIMS is the legacy and you are instantly in awe of the institute the moment you enter it. The institute has a legacy of 50+ years producing business leaders and industry stalwarts and the legacy and it impacts clearly drizzles down to the way it impacts the students today. It is located in the commercial capital of the country and that makes lectures from industry stalwarts possible, which makes it amazing for students to learn directly from people who are behind the biggest changes in business.
The best thing about IIM Indore is the diverse set of people one gets to interact with people from different backgrounds, cultures, regions. IIM Indore has one of the largest student strength among top b-schools with different courses such as IPM, PGP- HR other than mainstream PGP program. This gives a different edge to the intellectual conversations happening among the students within the campus. The staff support on campus is phenomenal and there are lots of space available for one to build their personalities like clubs, committees, special interest group and so many activity groups. The one big prospect of such a popular B school is the opportunity one gets to meet unique and interesting people. Apart from this, IIM Indore offers two unique courses which no other b-schools offer on such a massive scale: Rural Immersion Program (RIP) and Himalayan Outbound Program. R I P gives a real experience of living in rural villages and helps explore and relate to the problems faced by people living there and coming up with an actionable plan. This gives the unique situation for the students to meet the problem on its face value and analyze critical factors taking into considerations of all factors and constraints and implement the solution available which is the necessary skill set required for honing their managerial skills.
The timing of this article seems perfect while I write this because it’s been exactly one year (to date) since I joined IIM Indore and that invokes a lot of vivid memories associated with my first few days here. I came here with lots of apprehensions and doubts about how I’m gonna survive here for the next two years as it was the first time ever that I was going to stay out of home. But to my surprise, when I reached the campus, my first impressions and feelings were nowhere close to anything I was feeling till then. All my questions faded out and I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the campus- situated on the outskirts of the city, so vast, so green, so clean with fresh and pure air that it had an immediate calming effect on me. Probably my fears had made me forget all the hard work I put in to reach where I was, but the sight of the place brought in some peace and clarity to my thoughts.
One of my fond memories is that of Design Thinking - a uniquely crafted subject giving us a chance to unwind from the regular tried and tested ways to explore a side of us which is innately creative. Away from technology and books which we use in regular subjects, even the setup of the classroom was much different encouraging us to be more creative with colours, art and craft.
There are several instances where you feel excited and scared, joining IIFT was one of them. After two weeks at this premier institute I still have this feeling. This brief period in my life has been nothing short of a rollercoaster. So let’s delve in to my experiences & understanding of IIFT.
There are a lot of things to make my campus unique. Firstly, let’s start with the natural environment in which we have an amazing nature such as trees, birds and Mountain View. All of these make me feel fresh every time I enter my campus. Secondly, my campus has nice recourses for practical learning such as libraries, finance and IT labs. These places are quiet and peaceful that makes you always feel relaxed. Moreover my campus have different facilities for extra co-curricular activities such as Olympic size swimming pool, 2 gyms, 2 basketball ground, badminton & tennis courts, and newly inaugurated cricket stadium. Life at IIMi is something one will remember forever. Life here is always busy and fast-paced. You can find students preparing for exams, presentations, college fests at random time slots whether are late night or early morning. One of the things that make IIM Indore unique is its location i.e. near to SEZ Pithampur where one can find thousands of factories and plants of various renowned companies. The location advantage helps us in having frequent interaction with different industries and their professionals and also provides us an opportunity to do projects under them. Another thing I think may be unique is the course structure of various programs it offers. I got the opportunity to learn various computer languages like C++, Java, HTML, R despite being a commerce students. One of the most unique things at IIM Indore is its IPM (Integrated Program in Management) 5-year program which directly takes only 120 students all over India and that too directly after 12th standard. This course is one of its kind that offers the knowledge of various domains like psychology, sociology, statistics, foreign language etc. in first 3 years and last 2 years run on the PGP curriculum. The large pool of students at IIM Indore (roughly around 1500 students) helps in interacting with people of different geographical, an educational background which in itself provides a unique experience. We have students who have served army before and also those who have worked at different positions in renowned brands which help in knowledge sharing. Plus, the student’s council of our college is really best and organizes events at regular intervals that helps in creating a team spirit and a sense of leadership. It also works as an icebreaker for students of different courses or age groups. In a nutshell, they are many things that make my campus unique and it really hard to find the right one.
IIM Indore – or Planet- I as we affectionately call it, is a world in itself. Spread over close to 200 acres, and housing close to 2000 residents, the campus offers something for everybody. There are several aspects of IIM Indore, which makes it a truly unique place to live in.
