It all started with a mad dash from Churchgate station to the iconic red brick building of JBIMS! I met my fellow students while fulfilling the formalities of admission. The students are a mélange! We come from various disciplines, varied work experiences and bring with us our own brand of brilliance. But we all have one thing in common, our passion for JB or Bajaj as we fondly call it!

What makes Planet-I unique in its own way is its remarkable location & structure. Built on top of a hill, IIM Indore brings the promise of a fit life to all its students. Rushing to class, it takes around 15 minutes of climbing over a hundred & fifty stairs to reach the academic block, travelling through an area rich with hundreds of different species of flora and fauna. Laid out on the Rau-Pithampur road, over 20 km away from the city of Indore, the campus brings respite from city life in the form of clean, clear, pollution-free air & a night sky full of stars! The rooftop views from few of the highest located structures of the college give an amazing skyline view of the complete city, & a great opportunity for one to spend time with their own selves, contemplating life. Being located so far away from the main city, the campus is self-sufficient in everything right from the daily necessities which can be found at the student-run pi shop or food ventures which have been started by the student crowd of IIM-I as an entrepreneurial venture & a means to earn certain extra pocket money!! Like any other B-school, planet-I gives amazing friends and peers to all those who ever walked its roads. Right from working late nights in groups, to sharing all ups & downs of life with each other while at campus, student life at IIM Indore is designed to bond its students together in such a way that it gives you, not only amazing friends who’re always there to help you, but also a set of colleagues with a diverse background, who are there for you in different walks of life. Another very important aspect of life at IIM-I is its professors. A little eccentric, they are at the core of our lives here at planet-I and are always the ones behind making students’ lives at campus more exciting, in the midst of all the quizzes, assignments, presentations & placements.

Sitting on the top of the lush green beautiful hill, the best thing about IIM Indore is the broad array of academic opportunities which it provides to students like me. There are a vast number of academic fields of study which one can pursue, such as psychology, neuroscience, stochastic process and accounting. I feel like I will be able to pursue any interests I have at this university, which is essential as I try to make an informed choice about my career path. It seems as if all doors are open here, allowing me to truly be the captain of my destiny. In addition to this, diversity and acceptance are emphasized a great deal at my university, as they should be. This focus has greatly enriched my education and experiences. Instead of shying away from different views and experiences, I have been able to fully engross myself in them and discuss different views with others. The professors rarely censor students, and because of this openness, students become more tolerant of others beliefs and lifestyles. The diversity of my campus, and its focus on educating the population of this diversity has been one of the greatest contributors to my education at this university.
The digital clock at the back of the class had struck 6:30 pm as our professor patiently waited and was quite inconspicuously seated at the last seat. It seemed to be just another eventful, participative and discussion filled session in the lives of term-3 PGP participants of Section C & D. Amidst the last bio-metric punch that marked the closure of entry gates to session 4 of the Sales & Distribution course, the whispers almost immediately vanished and our professor jumped from the last seat all the way to the front. The class began. The case unfolded. And gradually each one of us was put into the shoes of the protagonist. In a few short pages, the story began to emerge. To share a glimpse of it, it was something like this, “ Mr Yen is a young business developer who is doing well in Kichika, an upcoming firm which deals with Hi-tech equipment to manufacturing concerns. Very recently they had presented their latest model of Binobek a revolutionary machine that made modular cutting of parts much easier in Lekdil Trade Fair Show 2017” It was there that Mr Yen met two very prospective clients who had shown an interest in the model” The session had emphasized on identifying the various entities that played a crucial role in B2B sales and decision-making such as the Gatekeeper, Influencer, Decision-Maker etc. Just as we were through the first three pages of interaction between Mr Yen and the two prospective clients, our professor asked for a show of hands to indicate who thought if Mr Yen was well on his path to closing a very lucrative deal.
Hailed as the castle on the hill, IIM Indore campus is known for its beautiful green scenery. The IIM Indore (IIMI) community co-exists in its ecosystem along with a wide array of flora and fauna. A trip around the campus will easily show that even mundane things that we see every day become beautiful when seen from a different perspective. This includes the breath-taking view of the sunset from the sunset point. The campus is home to a variety of bird species including peacock. Bird watching is done here regularly by enthusiastic students and professors wishing to learn and preserve the art.
The campus is spread across 193 acres in the outskirts of Indore. The campus is built on a hill, adding to the beauty of the well designed and organised campus. The evenings take you to the sunset point to enjoy the day coming to an end and then the Indore skyline at night to fill you with peace. The campus is a hub for birds of all kinds, and if you’re lucky, you might even get to spot a few rabbits running around, apart from the regular sightings of squirrels and sparrows. The campus is full of biodiversity and you will be amazed with the new sightings every day. The architecture of the academic building in a semi-circular shape, makes it easy to reach out to any section instantly. The latest addition to the campus life is the weekly screening of new Bollywood releases in the auditorium. The campus houses a state of the art sports complex with provisions for a gym, aerobics centre, squash and lawn tennis court. The jewel in the crown is perhaps the Olympic size swimming pool with provisions for coaching as well. For the foodies all night, we have night mess to fill in your hunger so that you can work any time.
