This was a thing of past which I take forward to my new MBA journey, mixing and matching was now a task to fit in. And so after all the calculations and considerations I zeroed in on some colleges, but I still felt that further evaluation would be inevitable.
Whenever we think of an institute like an IIM it widens eyebrows of many and a thought process suddenly awakens and roams around words like intellectual, seriousness, high package, great managers, future CEOs etc. A total contrast from an IIM’s student perspective. For a student like me, it has been a journey from the spiritual capital of India to the Venice of India, from Banaras to Udaipur. The shift has not only been in terms of geographical location but also from a world where life was at peace, at ease around the ghats near the Ganges gauging the world from a perspective of searching meaning of life and my purpose of life, to a place where the culture taught me to think and take action. Putting my first stepping stone towards the corporate life is what I consider a stage of transformation in my life.
So you have heard both 'trusted' and 'far-fetched' sources discuss us, and chomped your fingernails off watching remark wars on different sites, likely with popcorn and fries close by. Talk to any of the students in college, and you get a different perspective on life. It is incredibly enriching to spend your time here. The teacher can talk about any topic, and you will find some expert in that field sharing his/her “Gyan” in the class and giving us the practical insights of the topic.
Many things make IIM Udaipur not just unique but also special. The institute has shifted entirely to the new campus since more than a year now and is spread over a sprawling 300 acres, the most for any IIM in the country. Designed by one of the country’s best architectural firms, it has the growth potential which knows no bounds. The design enhances peer learning and removes any monotony that one might experience in academics. The management has put in all efforts to ensure that the students have access to world-class facilities, which include air-conditioned rooms for hostels, laundry, and a completely Wi-Fi enabled campus. Not just the world-class facilities, we have the fantastic mountain view from our rooms. I, being a photography enthusiast and also a member of photography club of IIM Udaipur feel blessed to have this view. I can keep my hobby alive. The environment helps me to stay calm in my hectic MBA life. In IIM Udaipur we don’t only study the theoretical models, but we also get the opportunity to go out in the field and experience them. That helps us to take better decisions as a manager. In February all the students go to the rural immersion program. IIM Udaipur also believes in contributing their part to the development of the society. The Rural Immersion Programme has been initiated by the institute keeping that perspective in mind. Under this programme, students visit various rural regions of Rajasthan and spend a week living there. During their stay, students gain an insight into the issues faced by the local people. Students collaborate with various NGOs and present solutions to improve the conditions for the residents based on their insights. This experience provides students with the first-hand knowledge of the challenges faced by the economically weaker sections of the society and an opportunity to help with the same. Feasible solutions are implemented by a collaboration between NGOs and the students. In the end, the city itself is exceptional and beautiful. The ‘Venice of the East,’ the ‘Kashmir of Rajasthan,’ Udaipur is one of the most scenic and historically rich cities in the country. Anytime you feel that you want to enjoy nature, go away from the mess to treat yourself with the most beautiful views of the Aravali range. If not satiated, you can join the Bikers and Trekkers (BAT) club of IIM Udaipur for one of their treks. Also in your free time, you can go to one of the many lakes or go for a weekend trip around Udaipur.
I opted for a beautiful subject in this term, Inspired Leadership Thru Personal Mastery. This subject is about understanding ourselves before others. It splits into three parts. Agenda of one of the pieces is to enhance the effectiveness by minimizing energy drains within oneself steeply. Dr. Thimappa Hegde took the session cum workshop on a Sunday. He is the neurosurgeon at Narayan Health at Bangalore. When I looked at the schedule, I was a little disappointed as my last week was hectic and my coming week would be more hectic because of the juniors coming and few college activities. But I didn’t want to miss the workshop because we didn’t know what that workshop would be. Timings were from early sunrise, 6 am till one is hungry, 1 pm. I went there. It was the most amazing seven hours in the academic block of my MBA that I experienced there. The workshop was about relaxing the mind and joining the incomplete threads of mind and heart via yoga and a few other methods.
The breathtaking views of IIM Udaipur Campus would win everyone’s heart. Spread around 200+ acre area, this place is a must visit. The campus is located at the abode of mountains. One can get a clear view of Aravalli hills. The institute imbibes the authentic traditional design, comprising lakes. The campus promotes Zero Wastage. Cycles are promoted to maintain the eco-friendly environment.
