I believe that any literature that can form an emotional connection with its audience and move them is something worth the read. So, when I was deciding upon what to write for the ABGLP Woo Me, I decided that I would write on a brief episode of my life which happened in the first year of my b-School which I believe many people can relate to. So, it goes like this. When I joined my b-school, I was ecstatic and in awe. I felt like the sky was the limit. Upon joining my b-school, I met a lot of amazing and talented people. There were people who had a lot of knowledge about various fields and were stalwarts in their respective areas of expertise. There were dancers, singers, sportsperson, debaters and many more. I was privileged to be amongst some of the most astute and tenacious persons in the country. There was a lot of harmony and coordination amongst everyone, but down the line, things started to change.

Eight kilometers of a tiring hike through the woods lead one to a small hut in which an adolescent kid sits equipped with packets of Masala Maggi. While eating one’s serve, the only question that echoes inside every mind is how God can make something that beautiful and keep it preserved from the reach of the commons. The only prayer that fills each heart is to not let humans ruin this beauty at least for as long as that heart beats. This is how you are welcomed in Meghalaya; Home to IIM Shillong.

IIM Shillong - The Journey

It was the 21st of June 2017, when I first landed at IIM Shillong with a multitude of emotions. As I entered the gate, I didn’t have the slightest clue, with reference to what all things were awaiting me for the next two precious years of my life. And today when I am sitting at my desk, writing this document and a progression of occasions come moving through my mind, I cannot tell the change I have experienced as a person between this length. Certainly, the past one year has been a roller coaster ride for many of us here at IIM Shillong, however for me, it has been an affair of a lifetime, which I am sure I would definitely miss in the later stages of my life. I consider myself very fortunate, that I took the decision to write CAT and pursue an MBA and that too from an IIM, otherwise, I would have never seen such an astonishing adventure which is still left to toss a considerable measure of amazement before me.

Moreover, the mountainous treks here, are the best stress relievers.

IIM Shillong - My Friends, My Troublemakers

The first person I want to talk about is Dopinder (changed name). He is not an achiever, not a hardworking personality, not very charming, not a big shot. In short, he does have any desirable qualities in him. But, I am writing about him because he is like a small brother to me. He always comes to me whenever he needs some help or else. He troubles me a lot. To mention a few, I have a small kitchen setup in my room which he uses daily after midnight to cook something because he always feels hungry after twelve. And to talk about assignment submissions, I don’t remember a single assignment where he did not come to me for help at the eleventh hour and troubled me. One wouldn’t believe (sometimes even I wonder) that many a times I had planned my assignments such that I had enough time at the end to help him in completing this assignment, knowing with enough certainty that he will come to me eventually.

IIM Shillong - Learnings Beyond The Curriculum

The classroom memory that I would like to share is from a session in the subject, “Self and Leadership Communication”. This course is taught by Prof. Sanjeeb Kakoty. Apart from being a teacher, he is a phenomenal writer and has also made a few documentary films. As evident from the name of the subject, this is not considered to be a ‘core’ course by many and there wouldn’t have been many enrolments if this was an elective. I am really glad that this is a mandatory course for all the students.
