These three words that pretty much encapsulate the entire journey of mine, here at SPJIMR! Over the next few moments, allow me to rewind time & take you on the exhilarating journey I have had during my first month here.
There is often a paradox involved with learning. The more you learn, the lesser you feel that you know. As your learning keeps increasing, so does your humility. You know, what you know not of. And that is the greatest gift to the learner; the ability to know what you don’t know. And this result is something which comes to you in your absolutely open state of mind.
A fine day in April changed my life and not only for good but for the best!

When your mid-term is four days away, a quiz awaits you in three days, and a senior asks whether you want to play a role in the drama to be performed at Valhalla – the sports and cultural fest of XLRI, in two days’ time, the first instinct of any first year IIM student, struggling with her Greek and Hebrew subjects, would be to say “NO!!! Are you freaking crazy?” I had the same feeling at first, although I could feel a prick within.
Endless memories have been recalled over a cup of coffee, as to how exciting is the life of a fresher in a B school. Good memories start with ice breaker sessions to new found puppy love, while the same old mess food greets you with an eager smile, not to mention the absence of monetary freedom one may or may not have enjoyed. These are quite common in any B school, but SPJIMR has a neat trick up its sleeve. Welcome everyone to The Personal Growth Lab, aka PG Lab.
‘The room is a mess!’ I heard when I called my friend who already reached the campus before I did for the new term registrations. I rushed to the hostels, checked my room and she was not lying. I asked here and there and got hold of the housekeeping staff and begged her to clean my room as soon as possible. She immediately followed me armed with her broom.
Kozhikode was no less than an island. If you missed your flight in the morning, you had to wait until the next day to take another flight, because there were no outbound flights after 12 noon. The extra day was probably meant to make you reflect – to think if the intangible benefits of taking the next flight outweighed its social and financial costs. It was a well-designed trap. Just like the MBA.
