I joined IIFT after working in a corporate house for three years. When I got to know that IIFT has a 4 credit course where each student would have to work with a local NGO, it did not make much sense to me. After working with Aarohan for the past 3 weeks I realize what an important role it has played in my life. There are few experiences which we tend to call ‘life changing’ and I would term this internship as my first.
B-Schools house an eclectic mixture of people ranging from different disciplines, diverse age-groups, varied regions of the country who harbour different mind sets and aspirations in life. There are some who are extremely passionate about sports, some others who if they would not have been in a B-School, would definitely have been one of India’s most famous rock bands’ lead singers. And then we also have one rare species of people who with their impeccable interrogation skills leave one and all, spellbound. In our series of Kaptains of IIM Kozhikode, we talk about Somya Barpanda from IIM Kozhikode – a cycling enthusiast, a skilful painter, a voracious reader, a fervid debater, an ABG scholar and above all, a person who feels that if curiosity killed the cat, it was the satisfaction that brought it back. Here is what she has to say about all this.
The morning of 26th January, 2014 began on a different note in IIM Udaipur. The maddening rush to classes was replaced by a flavoured celebration of the 65th Republic Day by the faculty, staff and students of IIMU with gusto. The event started with the flag hoisting by Director, Prof. Janat Shah followed by the National Anthem. Culcomm – The Cultural Committee of IIMU sparked the celebrations with scintillating performances of a dance act and a street play captivating the audience. PGP student Shuchismita Biswas enthralled everyone with her mesmerizing recital of patriotic songs. The dash of fervor in the day was added by the Republic Day Quiz conducted by Potpourri – The Literary Club of IIMU.
IIM Indore is gearing up to host Central India’s largest cultural extravaganza in the upcoming month. With the theme of “Breaking Free”, it offers a platform for students to let loose their euphoria and become a part of the exuberance and energy of this event. It is a chance for everyone to unshackle their creativity and showcase their talent.
For most of us, an MBA from a reputed Business school is a platform that facilitates the exploration of our inner strengths and durabilties to face real life challenges by inculcating the requisite skills, abilities, acumen, experience and confidence. However, in the process of attaining the ultimate goal, acquiring knowledge and unleashing one’s hidden potential (for some) & acquiring the highest paying jobs (for some others!), there are many other unintentional, at times unexpected occurrences that happen. No matter how bad or good they are, they end up leaving your life all enriched. Be it the bitter-sweet experiences that mould us into better souls by the day or the people, all of whom have a reason for entering/leaving our lives - they all have a purpose for happening. Serendipity, as they say!
It’s January, and the Cultural Committee of IIM R is preparing behind the misty curtains for the grand show, Infusion, the annual cultural and sports fest. Infusion 2014 will be held on the 18th and 19th of January 2014 in the campus. It is a national level annual event, with participation of institutions across India. IIM R is all set and ready to receive participants from various management institutes including top IIMs. The Silver Sponsor of the event is Punjab National Bank and the title sponsors are Foradian Fedena.
The victorious contingent of Wimwians, as students of IIM A are called, landed safely back on home soil today with the spoils of Sangharsh - the inter IIM A, B, C, L sports meet, firmly in their grasp. It was a sensational display of sporting prowess and the best possible way to begin the New Year.
