Born and brought up in Agra (The land of Taj) I pursued my B.com (Hons.) from Dayalbagh Educational Institute (D.E.I) during which I prepared for my M.B.A entrance exams to enter into a B-school which provides me with an opportunity to grow and shapes my understanding of the corporate world. Hailing from a commerce background IFMR was an obvious and ideal choice for me given my aspirations to pursue a career in finance.
Close your eyes and imagine a classroom. What do you see? Probably desks, chairs and students being lectured on some subject, let’s say Mathematics, by a professor. What you wouldn’t visualize is probably a bunch of students all standing inside the classroom and indulging in a healthy dose of tai-chi or an insanely noisy room full of students looking around for trinkets and items each of whose names start with a different alphabet.
There are moments when we often wonder what life has to offer in its platter. 2 years ago, the word “Rural” didn’t sound corporate enough to me. Thankfully, this reasoning didn’t get consideration in my decision. The outcome is me pursuing MBA in Rural Management. I feel privileged. To describe RM in a nutshell, I would choose the word - Metamorphosis. It’s a process of four stages - larvae, caterpillar, pupae & adult; and I am very happy to be a part of this process.
IIM Bangalore boasts of students with a diversity of work experience and the average work experience of students here is 3 years. Interestingly, freshers are welcome too! While these are some of the well-known facts about IIMB, there are several interesting facts that were not mentioned on any website/article but I realized them only after joining this place. Here are some of the most salient features of this place that make it a gem of an institute to graduate from.
The biggest buzzword while selecting B-Schools is “ROI”. But how does one define ROI? Is it just about the fee you pay versus the CTC you’re offered? Or is it also about the learning, networking, skill development, among others. What if I tell you that it’s completely for you to define the ROI of the two-year long MBA journey, in terms of what you learn and how much you earn. Several articles written in the past have talked at length about how can one make the most of the course from a learning perspective. Here’re some ways to earn while you’re at a B-School:
Mumbai, also known for its liveliness, depicts the place that is always up and the City of Dreams. I had never liked the city, in fact, I’m not sure I like it, even today. During my CAT preparation days, the mere thought of sky-scraping buildings, bustling local trains running across and the humongous population of the city gave me goosebumps. Because for a boy like me who comes from a very small city surrounded by coalfields & forests, whose entire population is half the population of Dharavi, I was always afraid that I’d be lost here. Lost in the sense, that I would never be able to leave an impact, the sheer magnanimity of the city shall devour me, and I’ll just be another drop trying to reach the shore of the Queen’s necklace. Call it my ambitions or a dare taken in a jiffy, I decided to go for NITIE Mumbai after my results were declared. I was pretty sure that Operations is the thing I wanted to do for the rest of my life, and if it even meant living in Mumbai for the next two years, I was ready to give it a shot. Because it’s not hard to decide what you want your life to be about, what’s hard, is figuring out what you’re willing to give up in order to do the things you really care about.
SDA Bocconi Asia Center is the pan-Asian hub of the SDA Bocconi School of Management in Milan, Italy. It was institutionalized in Mumbai in 2012 and in its 6 years, it has created a name for itself in the business administration world. Their international faculty, global curriculum and admission process makes this b-school stand out from the others in the country. They also provide recruitment opportunities from international brands like Ferrero, Luxottica, Michael Page, Benetton, Lamborghini, Estée Lauder Co., Ernst & Young, and Jean Claude Biguine, which mostly recruit from SDA Bocconi Asia Center.
