The idea of starting something from scratch, building it into something that is valuable and something that would change the lives of people, if not billions or millions, even a handful of human beings, has always fascinated me. I’ve always admired those who go out of their way to pursue their passion with an undying kindle of entrepreneurial spirit.
It was a Sunday evening. The campus round of Mahindra War Room was scheduled for the day. As I occupied my seat in the dome, I felt a strange pinch in my tummy. Not the adrenaline rush of the competition but that of regret. Before I explain why, let me share with you some key lessons I learnt through various competitions -
As I stepped into the Somaiya Campus, I was covered with an umbrella to protect myself from the Mumbai rains. As I peeked from the inside of the umbrella, the view was mesmerizing. The green gardens, concentric courses for running, the arena for sports as football, basketball, and many indoor games are a part of the campus, a rare view in a fleeting and bustling city of Mumbai. Inside the K J Somaiya Institute of the Management Studies and Research (SIMSR), the Ganpati statue at the center imbibes the auspicious beginning of a great journey ahead. One can experience the peace and contentedness in its environment.
If you are a B-School student or have been at some point in time, there is one thing which you would remember very clearly – the disappointment and irritation after attending every corporate PPT. A corporate PPT is like an iPhone. You can call it 6/7/8/X - they all are the same with some minor changes. What I am going to talk about are some aspects which every IIM or top B-School student will surely relate to. After sitting through 197024083 company PPTs on campus, this is what I have learnt about them -
What is Abhyudaya? It was in my second group interview that I first heard of this term. One of my co-interviewees had mentioned it as one of the factors that differentiated SPJIMR from every other college in the country. Despite my (seemingly) extensive pre-interview research, I had no idea what it meant. So, I did the most natural thing – I nodded my head vigorously and hoped that the interviewers moved on to other topics (hint: they did not).
It has been quite some time since all of us have entered the field of management studies. The whole point of a management degree is to put you through a rigorous curriculum that forces you to expand your limits and indulge into hardcore management of time and task to perform. We do cope-up with the PG degree lifestyle over the time, but let’s face it, all of us face setbacks occasionally. These setbacks come unexpectedly, they introduce a slack in our otherwise smooth flow of work and then all of a sudden, the equilibrium snaps and everything starts falling apart. One second you are this wizard who manages to put everything to place with a flick of a wand, and the other second you are nothing more than a circus juggler trying to balance on a unicycle. On occasions like these, one needs to let go and start all over again, it is okay to take a step back to plunge forward, and there is a lot you can do to keep yourself in the race, still fighting.

Green Campus: IIM Udaipur is first of the new IIMs to move to its permanent Campus of 300 acres, which is the biggest campus among all the IIMs. The overall design of the campus reflects the traditional fortress architecture that is a significant part of Rajasthan's history and culture. The IIM Udaipur’s Campus has been awarded GRIHA’s (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) 5 Star LD rating which is the highest level of rating for large developments.
