The Journey That has Been: To IIM-Lucknow and Beyond
It all started with a mail from IIM Calcutta- "Congratulations, you have been selected for the one-year PGPEX program at IIM Calcutta!" Without hesitation, I can say that that moment can’t be described by words from any lexicon. It was fun, it was exciting, and yes one year in this institute put me into its laps of memories and learning.
I would describe myself as someone who is always thirsty for something new. Unexplored places, unacquainted cultures, un-attempted adventures never fail to exhilarate me. Needless to say, one true love of my life is my BIKE (Royal Enfield Classic 350).
What does today’s youth do when they are bored with life or have too much time at hand? They choose to pursue a course named MBA. The abbreviation might just stand for Massive Bank Account for few. After months of slogging to crack the most coveted CAT, they finally land up in some college (which usually isn’t the one they dreamt of) and ponder over their future goals as the time gets tough with classes, assignments, presentations, placements and what not.
S P Jain Institute of Management and Research abbreviated as SPJIMR (which is unrelated to 'S P Jain Global') is a unique institution and a well-known brand within the Indian b-schools. Its uniqueness comes from the fact that it pays a lot of attention to the profile of incoming students as compared to the scores in examinations. Additionally, it accepts CAT and XAT scores and not just one score. It allows you to choose your specialization (Finance, Operations, Marketing, Information Management) before taking admission. It allows flexibility for you to do your minors in areas other than your specialization. The interview is not one-on-one Personal Interview instead a Group interview which is a totally different experience as you face the interview along with 5/6 other aspirants such as you though way different than you.
The mood here at the IIM-Rohtak campus is unusually upbeat these days. Normally one would assume, given that this is our third term and we would soon be bidding adieu to our campus and friends for our internship in a couple of weeks, that the mood would be a bit nostalgic. Even apprehensive, to an extent. Yet in every corner of our campus, one can hear the whispers of our ‘new campus’. For years it has been in the making, but now, finally, the day draws near when we can finally jump ship. We all had known that it is nearing completion for months now. However, it was only during our annual flagship fest- Infusion- when our Director Professor Dheeraj Sharma made the announcement that we will be shifting in the next two months that this distant possibility seemed like an impending reality. The cheer that followed this announcement was like a clarion call. "Start packing your bags", it seemed to say, "for I am not so far away."
