A Year In The Life Of An IIM Student
Time has a really wonderful way of showing us what really matters.

There is a distinct buzz in the corridors of the S.P. Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai. Despite innumerable hours of classes, excitement envelopes us as we prepare for our flagship sports festival- SPRINT. SPRINT is India’s largest b-school sports fest where teams from b-schools all across India will battle it out in different sports events.
Finomenon, shortly known as “Fino”, is the one and only Finance cell of NMIMS, Mumbai. It is one of the most coveted cells for the students intending to specialize in finance. Students eagerly wait for the google forms to be rolled out for the selection process to become a part of the Junior Fino committee, but only the best fit, get the golden opportunity.
Six months into Management Institute, I look back and think 2017 has been the best of this decade so far. The massive reason being my successful admission into IIM Calcutta, completing the first 4 months at Joka (our beloved IIM C campus is called ‘Joka’) and bagging an internship at TAS which had been a dream for two years. All these phenomenal changes on paper along with finding a different personality in me have been like nothing before ever in life. It looks so hunky dory on the outside when said but just like a movie production where a bunch of people work so hard to get the actors on screen and make it a success, my story had a lot of characters in it to bring it so far. TL-DR; it’s been this- ‘At Joka, we leave no one behind’ - A line I heard during my city meets with the PGP2s after getting the admission letter. But it’s more than just a line. It’s been the essence of the past 6 months at Joka and almost all of 2017. Allow me to elaborate.
26th July, 2017. A date I am least likely to ever forget. I have travelled far and wide, met several scores of people in my lifetime, yet I was giddying with excitement about the prospects of a new place, new people and new life. Between sparse google pictures and horror stories painted by seniors, I was at my wits’ end as to what to expect from an institute of such stature. All of it paled in comparison when I stood in front of the gates which read Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode; fully aware of the year-long hard work, discipline and sacrifice that went in to reach here!
It was late October, the frenzy was the setup and everyone was decked up. Started with bewilderment with a great chunk to turn up and ended on a lovely note with lots of memories and peaceful bang up.
