It was late October, the frenzy was the setup and everyone was decked up. Started with bewilderment with a great chunk to turn up and ended on a lovely note with lots of memories and peaceful bang up.
I am a South Indian with very less exposure to Hindi (I was forced to take Hindi as an elective during my 3rd year in Undergraduate (YES! :/) and am still clueless how I ended up with a C (I was expecting an F :P)). So, you can imagine my state when I got an admit into IIM Indore! I had months to pick up on Hindi before stepping into Madhya Pradesh for the first time, but as usual, I was like Blah and spent time catching up with family, and here is why. Almost 2 years now and still I manage to shameless say “ Sir, Hindi nehi maalum.. English se please explain kardeejiye..” (Hey I am proud I have come this far!) Anyway, here is how I am still surviving happily :D The main goal of this article is basic survival tricks, and here is how:
The Himalayan Outbound Programme is a “4 credit course” offered in the 5th Trimester, but I would prefer to call it an educational excursion. So, we pack our backpacks and go trekking for a week in the Himalayas. How many of us would actually go backpacking in the Himalayas after we enter the “corporate world”?! Often, many claim that HOP is just an additional attribute that would attract one towards joining Planet-I. But I beg to differ and here is why…
With two terms done and dusted, one thing I’ve realised is that I have been average in every sense. Grades being just below the median, not a part of any of the famed clubs, past performance is average when benchmarked against peers and even summer placements indicate the same!
The MBA course passes way too quickly than you can imagine. This fast speed is due to the high intensity of the course as well as high rigour it demands. The value addition is bound to happen, just that the value addition is different in case of different people. The sheer diversity of batch teaches a person so many things about different domains. The mind is not restricted here and starts thinking about different perspectives. One thing that every b-school student can relate to is the high number of competitions that come their way.
Before stepping into IIM Lucknow, I'd had less than a month of vacation. Due to the lack of time and my innate innocence, I hadn't thought about what I was getting my self into. In short, I hadn't really thought of what I wanted and what I was going to expect from a b-school in general.
When one is able to break through the cacophony of the clutter, the goal seems attainable.
"Come with a cup of tea, go with a bucket of knowledge"
