25th June’17 – In a brightly lit auditorium, one of the most professional groups of individuals introduced themselves to the whole new bunch of first years brimming with curiosity. Thus, the Toastmasters IIM Ranchi made their first public appearance during the induction program. A brief presentation by them and two open to the floor table topics later, I made up my mind to join this club. Chartered on 30th October’13, this independent body has made its mark in the hall of fame of District 41 – the Distinguished Club Award in 2014-15 and the Fantastic Five Award in 2016.
"Having worked in the industry for 5+ years, I was confident that I had the potential to impact organisations on a larger scale. After some degree of self-introspection, I understood that a skillset upgrade was in order. The opportunity presented itself when I was offered admission to the PGPX program conducted by IIM Udaipur in collaboration with Purdue University. The opportunity to continue my education in not one, but two world-class educational institutions was too good to pass.
This journey has been incredible both professionally and personally. The unique pedagogy, the excellent academicians, and the well-crafted syllabus come together to equip the students with the advanced skill set to handle the supply chains in the gamut of corporate arenas. Throughout the entire course one would be on toes and hell yeah that's one of the crucial learning too. Another stellar part of this journey is the Purdue experience. It's very important in present day world to have the global exposure.
The importance of values and ethics in business has been undermined in the past. With businesses being driven by the desire to capture market share, profit maximization, aggressive marketing and the race for acquisitions, we’ve somewhere forgotten the importance of our values and ethics while taking decisions. The age-old ideology that business is separate from personal life and thus the two must not be mixed has played a major role in the lack of ethics in business decisions. The root of all this lies in our education system. The importance of value based education, especially in the area of business management is immense. Over the past few years, institutions like SPJIMR have been focusing extensively on promoting value-based learning in order to produce socially sensitive leaders of tomorrow who would be driven by strong ethics and values.
