The diverse culture of our nation was splendidly displayed by the students of IIM Rohtak on the occasion of 71St Independence Day. Students from more than 20 states came together and saluted the sacrifice made by the true heroes of our nation for the freedom struggle.
Several times people already know what they want to do in life, where they want to work, who they are going to marry, how many kids they are going to have, but majority of the world is like me, we go with the flow, we let things happen, I do not know what is going to be the ending of this article, but I know I won’t stop until I am happy with it.
We all develop our perceptions of a b-school from what we read, hear & see from family, friends, relatives, coaching institutes, social media, TV, print media and the internet. However, the reality might often be different than what we expect. After securing admission, there are certain things which a student realises are pretty different than what they imagined. That calls for a reality check so that one can better understand what's in it for a potential aspirant.
"The Greater Fool" is a theory in investing in which someone makes a risky investment on the assumption that they can sell it for more at a later point to some literally greater fool than they are. It states that the price of an object is determined not by its intrinsic value, but rather by irrational beliefs and expectations of market participants.
It has now been close to two months since I stepped into this Institute and before you dismiss that as being not long enough time to be able to give substantial insight on institutes, I’ll put out a disclaimer that this would be of most interest to those preparing/about to start preparing for the various management exams with an intent of joining a b-school soon or those who seek to get a glimpse of what to expect at the institute that is also popularly known as the “Campus in Clouds”!
The campus in the clouds never sleeps. A future manager suddenly wakes up to the sounds of joy coming from the meeting area between the hostels, our beloved quadrangle. He walks towards the sounds confused what could be so important at 12 AM in the night. He reaches there and witnesses something he had long forgotten since his graduation college. A birthday. The whole batch, celebrating the fact that one of them is now closer to his forties. Everyone is happy except, the person of the hour. Running to hide, the celebrations here can sometimes be painful. Lesson 1, wear lots of clothes on your birthday.
On 9th July, I had one of the best experiences of my life. PGP17 was taken on a trek as a part of the foundation course on sustainability. The day started with a walk through the sacred forest of Mawphlang. It felt like I was stepping into an award-winning photograph of an exotic forest. The sheer variety of the shades of green that I was seeing was in itself stunning. To add to the beauty, we were walking along a large stream that lent itself wonderfully to photographs. We were privileged enough to see the sacred spots inside the forest where the locals conduct their rituals. It was a truly refreshing experience.
