ABG and its underrated companionship

ABG and its underrated companionship

Even in today's 21st century India, where our ease of business global ranking was a deplorable 140+ till five years ago, some old conglomerates have sustained their growth since decades and have formed an integral part of our daily lives. Foremost among them is the multinational Aditya Birla Group, that has managed to secure its position as one of the top Indian brands for over a century and a half now! By revenue, it is currently India's 3rd largest private sector conglomerate. Its association with such a huge mass, owing to its diverse range of products, is another milestone which many corporates aspire to achieve.

Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life? (PART A) Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life. Well, why wouldn’t it be? When I was a kid, I distinctly remember playing in the sand and cement at the site of our new house. There were large rather heavy bags of cement with a big label Ultra Tech Cement written across them. I had no clue about this big brand that was going to evolve and grow alongside me. It took a while for me to realize the hot parathas I take to school for lunch are always packed in ‘Freshwrapp’ aluminium foil by Hindalco, also owned by Aditya Birla Group. All the ‘get the idea!’ advertisements on the television had no meaning to me until it was time for me to get my first cellphone and I did exactly what the TV ad said, I got an idea. Amidst all this, I grew up, a teenager with absolutely no fashion sense whatsoever. Forever 21 and Arrow were my go-to brands and I had to never look back at my lack of fashion sense.

My Passion & Aditya Birla Group

My Passion & Aditya Birla Group

Passion as we define gives us energy and pulls us naturally towards itself. If we actually focus on the things which excite us naturally when we do, observe or even think about can build a road towards our passions. A road that can give us immense joy, greatness and all the worldly pleasures one can think about, but are we actually educated in that way?? To explore? To go for our natural talents, our passions ? Does our education system support or accept this thought process or it just creates conformity in all of us?

Part A: For something to be big in your life, it should be constantly making an impact in a person’s life. ABG exactly fits the bill. Having a diverse portfolio, ranging from clothing to telecom to even freshwrapp, ABG has ensured that each and every day I am associated with the brand. For a young MBA student, one of the most crucial assets are the formal clothes. With brands like Peter England, Pantaloons and Van Heusen, ABG made sure that my formal clothes are not only of a reasonable price, but they also offer the quality much above the competition. In the current telecom industry, if I have to pick a player which offers the best quality of network, it has to be Idea. Now, with its merger with Vodafone India, it has become even stronger. In today’s world, where mobile phones have become more of a necessity, it becomes almost impossible to imagine a scenario without a working internet connection. With its great coverage pan-India, Idea-Vodafone has ensured that even the remotest of places get an internet signal, thus making the travels extra enjoyable. If the above was not enough, they have developed villages, treated patients etc. thereby making a significant difference in the lives of the people. Then there are things such as use of UltraTech cement in construction of bridges or use of copper in trains, that are certainly difficult to live without. In short, the impact of a conglomerate like ABG is immeasurable. ABG has literally been building the nation since independence. Part B: As soon as final year of my engineering began, I had two choices: Pursue higher education or get a below average job. I chose the former. Ever since, the challenges have been coming thick and fast. Right from preparing for engineering exams and CAT simultaneously, to the conclusion of interviews, it had been an uphill task of managing both. After I qualified for IIM Kashipur, I believe the challenges only became harder. From sleepless nights to adjusting to the hectic schedule, it was a huge challenge. But, with each passing term, I became stronger and managed to do better than ever before. From clearing certifications to being part of teams of annual fest and Tedx, it became a habit to face challenges head on. I believe, this past year in MBA has been one of the most challenging, yet it has resulted in the maximum overall development in my life. From getting a GPA of 7.xx in term 1 to crossing the 9 point barrier in term 3, I think the results were evident. Then came the internship, My first steps in the corporate life. From getting a manager who demanded the best out of me at all times to working 60-70 hours a week, I believe the grooming became even better. After a while, I started enjoying the hectic work schedule, since it gave me the freedom to realise my true potential. I believe that until we are tested to our limits, we do not perform our best.  Constantly stretching beyond the limits makes the actual difference and goes a long way in personal growth.
